  • Airing down and effective tire diameters???

Inquiring minds want to know! So after watching Nailer go thru the gate at Calico with 8 lbs. of tire pressure in his MTRs, I thought he had a flat the way that tire was bunched up.
The question is what was his effective tire diameter, assuming he was running 35s??

I'm trying to justify running 37s on my LJ with 488s, alloy shafts thru-out.
I have the travel, no clearance issues, just dont want to bust up my shtuff. I hear that might be a little to much on 44s.

But if they are aired down to say 10 or so, am I really running 35s, 33s??

Or is this already figured in when we choose tire size.

Oh and someone bring plenty of spare 37s for me at Rubicon
    (they're really 90% air)

truth is, tire size is tire size. it's as much the weight of more rubber as it is the bigger diameter that's hard on the axles.

air down your 35s to 8-9 psi. wheel. see if you get stuck on your diffs. if so, pick better lines.

Its not the diameter, its the footprint that breaks stuff. Bigger foot print (when aired down) = more traction = parts go boom (pants go brown). I dont have a problem with my 35's and 7-8 PSI. Give it a shot. I dont think 37's are the answer.

you saw those tires bunching up and grabbing the rocks. those mt/r's sure do change shape, dont they
there was little to no tire spin in the hole. if the axles were not up to the task, they would have let go, since the tires werent.
i generally run 7.5-8 in the back, and 7 in the front.
check it a couple of times in the day as it warms up.

Know anyone running krawlers with single and still keeping inside bead on?

                    nope.
krawlers seem to have a bit of difficulty doing that, being aired down.

Yeah, even when I'm down to 10 people still ask me if I let air out. As soon as they get kissed by some rocks they fart and come off the bead.

'I'm looking and Champions but wont go double just for these tires.

I really like double beadlocks. If the stauns ever give up I'll look into some other sort of doubles, maybe the hutchinsons.

I read you guys did a big test with those. Without double locks krawlers are useless. How do you like the stauns? PM me
