  • new header needed for my 94 4.0L

Hello everyone, on the way home I pretty much went deaf... "what?" My exhaust header sounds cracked and the exhaust itself is less than a year old so I am giving myself the excuse to go header shopping:yay::yay::thumbs_up:thumbs_up

All pro's and con's for the various brands are appreciated. Nikos said he has the Banks and they finally changed the design so the flange doesn't crack any longer. Any other recommendations and anyone feel like helping me do the install once I buy it?

    Thanks,
    B

You find one this week Skeeter come see me and I'll help you put that pup on. I don't think headers last very long on the 4.0 but that's just my opinion, not a real fan of racer Brown parts they just don't seem to last. At the moment I only have 3 Jeeps in the driveway, I am sure I can find some room for a fourth one

Google Challenge-y header for details. Ain't as pretty as the others, but the price makes it attractive.

That looks like a pretty nice header for the money. Dont worry about this or that companys claiming better flow because the cat is going to restrict it anyway so it dont really matter.

well I have this one ready to sell in my garage if your interested at 250$
            http://www.cliffordperformance.net/M...gory_Code=J258

But it comes with full exhaust from the header collector back, and for a cherokee, so you have a excuse to get a XJ... :-)

Oh and it comes with 2 dynomax bullet mufflers that are very nice, and loud :-)

And as you know it all only has 14 miles on it. The header alone is not cheap in the cermamic coated clifford.

I have one guy coming today at 6:30 to "look" at it. if he doesnt buy it, then you can if you want it.

Thanks Rob, that will be the installed price... so I will take it. That is the least you can do for making me have to have my suspension sorted out twice You can take a look at my "weeping/leaky" RK shocks at the same time. How does the header work with the two O2 sensors and my OBD1 ECU? I don't need to run two exhausts so do you have a 2 into 1 or another "Y" collector pipe to run just one exhaust/cat/muffler?

On another note, why are you not installing it on your new motor?

You have two O2 sensors? FYI, using an O2 sensor for a 91 Dodge Shadow 2.0 saves about $35. It's the same sensor, just 1 1/2" shorter wires - just move the wire harness stud on the oilpan forward one hole.

If that header is ceramic that's a screaming deal installed or not. Just make sure there are no fittment issues.

one hole is for a o2 and is open. the other is not open, a bung is there but you would have to drill it thru the tube to get it functional.

IF you actually use any true ext resi shock that has a good system in it, it will weep at the wiper. IF there is a drip or ever see any actual liquid then its bad. But if its just getting "wet" enough to collect dust, then its typical. Look at any king, or sway a way etc, that is actually pushed at all, and used in dust (not the mall parking lots) and it will look like this.

We Talked about stretching it Before we did anything, remember? It was "Too Much" for you, remember? As for Sorting it out. Maybe you dont remember the whole conversation of, lets see how it does first, then we will go from there? Kinda like your Dana 30 front end and 37" Kevlars? Lets see how it does first then fix it when it breaks. The rear shocks were put on and you were told they would likely need to be revalved for Your setup. But that was never done, right? You just wanted 9000's with the fancy bling turn knob. And you went from 36" horible tires and wheels and a different top and more weight on the back etc. all during the first round of trying to get a coil over conversion to 'work'. So the consistant change of balance, weight and want, made it very difficult to get you what

So its nice that you finially got the $ together and the jeep to some what if a long term weight and ballance and gave it to a shop for a few months to get finished, and tuned, finially... How about you wheel it now :-)

Sorry, only the header and my full true dual exhaust. So no collector, but a muffler shop can make you one.

I went a different style header to fit better in the front end, with having a D60 rock jock and only 7" of lift, I needed more room at the yoke area. As well as having a picky stand alone fuel managment system, that needs 2 O2s after the collector and as close as possible together, a different header and exhaust made this all much cleaner and easier.

Well... I looked around and realized that my current header is a Borla that has been on my YJ for over 16 years when I bought her back in 1998. So I called Borla this am and sent them this picture:

and since they have 1 million mile warranty they are sending me a brand new header and gasket today for free !!!!

                    Buy Borla!!!

Has anyone noticed any difference in performance by painting a header with that special "ceramic" paint coating?? Should I coat this with anything before I install it?

                      Thats Bitchen!

I would either take it down and have it professionally ceramic coated, or just paint it with a million very light coats of true header paint, after you have it blasted (it should be "shipping" coated when you get it), and then cleaned well with a prep liquid.

I had a full borla exaust on my 91 supercharged chevy truck for years. The headers were coated also and supppsed to cut down on engine bay temps by keeping the heat in the header. Really didnt noticed much temp improvement in the bay compared to the stock exaust manifolds. I had borla warranty atleast 3 catback systems and the last one they put on to make sure it was installed right. I personally think the stainless tubing they use gets to brittle and is prone to cracking. Never had issues with the headers. Other than that they have a good warranty but you definatly pay for it because their stuff aint cheap. I think my headers were ~$800 and catback was ~$600 IIRC.
