I paid $200 each for my KM2's back in November. Wanted the Goodyear's, but couldn't find them. I've been more than happy with the BFG's.

Well, it really blows... I had a set of 37 MTRs on order for the past month and 7 days before shipping, Goodyear announced they have not started production and that they have no production date scheduled. So, they are on backorder yet again. :poop:

To add insult to injury, I took a deposit on my 40s and the buyer is coming this weekend to pick them up. So, unless I want my LJ to sit on jackstands indefinitely, I have to look at other tires besides MTRs. Besides, I don't trust Goodyear's bogus dates and excuses any longer.

There are 3 tires I could find as a substitute, the BFG KM2s of course ($365), the Cooper STTs ($303), and the Toyo Open Country MTs ($320). The Toyos are nice, but damn... 92lbs a tire is quite heavy compared to others.

So, is there anyone running the STTs that can give some feedback? How about the KM2 folks, how does the actual height compare to the advertised height? (some have reported that they run small)

Seen new 37" krawler red labels on craigslist for pretty good price. Not for street use though.

good look'n out. A bit unpractical for my application though. I need a street/trail tire.

Just my 2 cents...but anyone that knows me, knows I wheel a lot; and in order to do so, I've been driving 3.5 hours to get there 1 way. I roll on Mickeys MTZ's. I rock crawl 95% of the time when I wheel..I've been pretty happy with my Mickey's..and I have friends who will will say the same about their Mickey's. I was considering trying the MTR's for my next set of tires because that's what a lot of wheelers roll on, but if you can't get them, I personally think the Mickey's probably perform as well as the MTR's...and if there is any sort of difference, it's very minor...

              Like I said though...just my 2 cents...happy wheeling

MTR's would remain my favorite, have had those and they worked well and are plenty tough. MTZ's chunk and the sidewalls do not like rocks all that much punctured 2 of them within a few months of each other. Cooper STT's seemed to work ok, didn't balance well and chunked. Got KM2's now balance well but are about the loudest tire I have had on my Jeep. Toyo's are heavy but Peeps seem happy with them. If you don't mind wide tires Pitbull Rocker radials rock too

My first set of Mickey' were 31's and now roll on 33's. Have never gotten a flat or punctured a tire/sidewall.

Any run of the mill offroad tire made by Cooper, including procomp and mickey thompson tires are known for thin sidewalls

I've never heard anything but good things about Mickey's and have never had any problems; either have any of my friends...and I rock crawl more then most. I actually have a chunk of tire missing (thanks to John Bull) on the sidewall down to the inside, and it still didn't puncture.

But, like I said before; just my 2 cents.

Art those bfg km2's tires are probably loud because they came off my jeep and were put on yours. Maybe the tread wore different, alignment or they were put on backwards. Probably just need to break them into your jeep & take them the trail instead of > 5 miles to work and the mall lol. They were not that loud when on my jeep. Now talk about loud those Krawlers are louder than my stereo with the top off lol. As far as Mickeys, Procomps or Coopers I have never liked them they are hit or miss. I have seen the tread separate on mickeys and procomps on more than one occasion. All those tires are made by cooper and back in the day when I used to mount truck tires the coopers were by far the worst tire I have ever mounted. They didnt wear worth a crap and separations all the time. The price of them suckers is rediculouse even on sale. For the money you could buy a way better made BFG or a Goodyear. Even the 4wheel parts hammers buggy dont run their own pro comp tires they are running BFG's lol.

I roll on Pro Comps eXtreme MT’s; I've also read that their sidewalls are no good. However, if it wasn't that they wear down really fast I would get them without a second thought. These tires crawl up and down rocks like a sure-footed mule, they also do well on mud. I have wheeled quite a bit with Lorie and Skylar (both have the same MT’s) in the last few months, let me tell you she wheels harder than many other wheelers (BTW all other have been men) and I am also very impressed with her MT's and they seem to wear down better than my Pro Comps. I have wheeled hard alongside her and perhaps too hard based on my level of experience but my sidewall in spite of my chosen line(s) have impressed me.

I see so many rigs with the MTR’s yet I’ve have read so many bad reviews on the Goodyear MTR’s that I was refusing to buy them for my next set of tires. However, there are two factors that would make me want to buy the MTR’s. First is that it’s my understanding that they are made in the USA (as are the Cooper SST’s which are one of my other options for the same reason), my second reason is that I see so many off-road vehicles riding on the MTR’s. To me those two reasons are a valid reason why I would consider a tire; how popular they are in the wheeling community and are they made in the USA.

                          Whenever possible I by American…

i just called them for you. They said GY should have them on 3/22 and they can order a set then. That is if GY actually makes them...

I hope you don't mind me jumping in your thread, but it seems we are in the same boat... Wishing for those elusive MTRs. The LJ is not a trailer queen, so I also need a street friendly tire.

I spoke with them yesterday, they do not have the MTRs in stock. GY was supposed to ship them out on 3/23 but they canceled the production and told their dealers last Thursday. There is no date as to when GY will produce them, and even if they put a date out there is a strong chance it won't be a reliable one. I would prefer to get the MTRs, but I am not willing to have my Jeep on blocks forever.

So, for the other tires mentioned, here are my thoughts:
                              • Mickey MTZ - Ran some before (although not the MTZs) and they did not impress me
                              • Toyo Open Country MT- I ran them in a smaller size and liked them. The problem is that the bigger sizes are very heavy, 92lbs compared to 74lbs for the MTR and 70lbs for the KM2.
                              • ProComp Xtreme MT - I had a set of 33s on the TJ and I think they are a very good tire, hardly any wear and no chunking. Too darn expensive though, 4WP is proud of them.
                              • PBRs - Peeps seem to like them for durability and being true to size, hard to believe they say they are fairly quiet. Not sure where to get them at a reasonable price (under $400).
                              • KM2s - Onlinetires.com has a free shipping deal right now and it may be the ticket to have Discount Tire price match.
                              • Cooper STT - I know nothing about them, but Art's post is not favorable.

One of the guys in my club looked around Ventura Co for some 35x12.50x15s. He could not find any. When I was at Town and Country a little over a week ago, I asked them and they called their various warehouses. I think at the third or fourth one, they found a set and my friend picked them up.

Maybe folk may want to try a number of different places.....you may get lucky. By the way, I run 35s on my Rubi and I like them a lot.
