Thanks for all the feedback!! But this is the first I heard of having to lock the front hubs... my CJ is 35 years old, no locking steering to worry about when towing. I was wondering if driving at 65mph pulling my jeep with the hubs locked if that may cause a problem?

I don't recall seeing speed limitation in either manual.

65 with hubs locked is not a big deal in my opinion.

If you don't lock the front hubs you don't get proper lubrication.
Warren, you should post all of it that includes the "Note" about the stop you have to make every 200 miles. This is to "start an rev the engine for about one minute to circulate oil in the transfere case"(page 77 Owner's manual/CJ-7 & Scrambler).
FWIW: I have rebuilt many D/300 t-cases the were towed AS per the above. And "smoked" the out put shaft bearing anyways.
Bottom line is it's YOUR t-case,do as you please and OH-Yeah, were is AMC/Jeep these days?????
ME, I'll pull the rear d/shaft.

JC just saw(as in FOUND my glasses)that you have a Mod 18 t-case in that case(YES, it's a "pun") just hook up and goooooo.

P.S. Warren, there is NO oil pump in a D/300 t-case.......

Item #2....The tranny is in gear to "drive" the t-case shafts to "push" the oil in the D-300 case. Does not have one thing to do about tranny "spinning".

What CJ O/M do you have, BTW?

Just checked my Owners Manual and it says:
"A Jeep with a manual transmission can be towed with either all four wheels or either axle on the ground fir any distance at a safe speed with both the transmission and transfer case in Neutral."

CHILTON JEEP 1945-1987 Part No. 6817

So my next question is putting the transmission in gear a better idea?

                I had a 79.

I am just quoting what was in the factory service manual and owner's manual.

I have found over the years that Chilton's books NOT to be 100% "right".
Think about ALL the different t-cases that were been used by Jeep from 1945-1987...........
                  Cheers,

My Tranny is a T18...and my T-case is a D20, so I'm not sure if the Model 300 would be the same.

My son has a mod. 20 t-case in his CJ-5 and when I rebuilt it for him I told him to treat it like a 300 as far as towing goes.
