Body Lift... yay or nay?

Well, I put a 1" body lift on my YJ with a 5 spd and required no adjustment of anything except the fan shroud, but I spose that may be a square-light-leaf-sprung-YJ-jeep thing...

I'm just curious as I've also got the 6 speed . . . is the manual more forgiving when it comes to angles than the auto . . . I'm not hatin'

It makes no difference whether you have an automatic or 5-speed with a body lift so far as angles go. I recently converted from a 5-speed to an automatic and my 1" body lift couldn't have cared less.

And there's no need for a motor mount lift when installing a body lift, it's silly for some people to say it's needed. All you really need to do is to drop the fan shroud (no need to drop the actual radiator) an inch to re-align the fan shroud with the fan.

About the only problem a body lift can cause for a TJ is it can cause minor shifting issues for the t-case and/or tranny shifter which may or may not happen. My 1" body lift caused no transfer case shifting issues for me. But the fact the floor was raised an inch further up from the transmission slightly restricted the transmission shifter's ability to move all the way into gear. That however was easily fixed by removing the little neopreme piece underneath the top shifter boot that is there solely to support the shifter boot. Removing it made the shifter shaft's diameter slightly smaller so it was no longer restricted. Some just move the console a tad to accomplish the same thing which is also easily done.

For those who do experience t-case shifter issues after installing a body lift (but I did not), that's because the t-case shifter mechanism is mounted between the tub and t-case and it may bind due to the fact its two mounting points are no longer level with each other. That is easily fixed with a t-case shifter kit from someone like Skyjacker which modifies the shifter bracket so it's no longer bolted to both the tub and t-case.

Sounds like quite a few folks have a 1" body lift. Do most of you have it for more tire clearance? Or another reason? I'm jus curious if I should go with one anyway, even though the tummy tucker does not need it.
With a 2" suspension lift, I could definately use more clearance.
I am again, undecided...

ok, ok... I got my 1" body lift so I could get the modified Airaid intake.. that and with my 4" lift, I am able to clear 35" tires with just a little trimming.

The motor mount lift is to keep the same pinion angle for the rear shaft when you do a belly up or when you remove a t-case drop on a lifted Jeep. You don't want your t-case output pointing up. That's too much angle for such a short drive shaft, even with a CV on it. It doesn't really have much to do with the shifter or fan shroud but those do need to be addressed when you do it.

1" . no mas... yrs ago i did a 1" BL with a 1" MM.. with a TJ you almost cant even tell a 1".. go to a 2" and you look stupid.... ive since taken out my 1" BL and still have my MM. works fine...

I installed a 1" body lift in my CJ7 a few months ago with no problem. It came with a longer bracket for the clutch arm for the fire wall. I still need to install it but it's working fine. There is a pretty good angle in the linkage where it runs paralel to the firewall.

It was easy to do and I'm no mechanic.

And thanks Roger. I put a body lift on a Suburban years ago. There wasn't really much to it. So my Jeep should be a cake walk.

Hmm... TJ thing I guess? You can't add a MML without a body lift on a YJ without pounding a lot of steel out of the way.
