  • Body Lift... yay or nay?

I would appreciate any input ya'll might have on body lifts...
I am thinking about a 1" body lift for my '05 TJ.
What are the pros and cons to a body lift?
It seems like just a 1" would not really change things too much.
I am looking at the Teraflex Belly up skid plate tor my transfer case. But it recommends a 1" body lift.
THe Kilby fuel tank skid plate or an '05 Tj also requires the 1" body lift.
I see the pros... more wheel travel clearance, body a little higher than the rocks.
    What are the cons?

    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance
    Scott

Id recommend a 1" body lift to give you another full inch of clearance for the tires. I wouldnt go over that. Aside from looking stupid (big visible gap between body and frame), depending on how high you went, it could be dangerous in an on-road accident where the body and frame are seperated, sheered at the body lift bolts.

one inch is fine I have 1 on mine to clear the atlas ,you might have to raise the motor mounts on the six 1 inch also I believe currie sells those ,I have a 4 banger so all I had to do is adjust the shroud to keep it cooling properly

I also added the one inch daystar kit. I needed bushings anyway so i got the spacer built into the new bushings. my fan is electric so no impact. about 150 bucks

A 1" body lift is barely noticeable. It works great for the belly up and it allows you to add 1" lift motor mounts to get that good pinion angle back after you lifted up the tranny with the belly up.

Dont forget that youll probably need a motor mount lift as well...or a radiator drop (not recommended as a permanent solution)

I bought the Currie 1" lift motor mounts and that kept everything in line and worked great. If you have an automatic trans, check the shift lever action, you might need an adjustment.

he's got a 5 speed. don't fool with the motor mount lift, just drop the radiator shroud 1" it's the easy way to go, and everything else will be fine.

Can someone explain why you don't need a Motor Mount lift to accompany the Body Lift if you have a manual? Wouldn't the angles be the same?

                              No need for body lift

Thanks a lot everybody but a friend turned me on to NTH Degree. It seems they went under. But AEV bought them and is still selling the products with the NTH Degree name.
I have seen the NTH Degree "Tummy Tucker" on a couple of rigs including Max7's. This transfer case skid plate is super strong with gains of over 2" of clearance at the belly and requires no body lift.
It's a li'l more pricey, but it seems to be a great product.
                              Check it out:

Who knows.... A 1" body lift may still be in the cards. Time will tell.
                              Again, thanx
