If you go with the 241 case you won't have 2 low. thats what i like about the teralow. Currie runs the 231 with 2 low in there new tj with a Ls1 and 37" tires.

      A lot to think about

A Tera kit with a big chain kit can make it stronger, true and the Terra 2-Lo will give you 4:1 2wd for tight technical trails true also, but the NV-241OR Rubicon T-case is 50% stronger no doubt. And by this point the 241OR with better spline cout input/output yolks it has, you are way ahead in beef. Besides think about this: you will have over $1400 in the Tera 231, not including labor, ($1050 for terakit + $150 for big chain + $250for 2-Lo kit = $1450 NOT INCLUDING SYE CONVERSION) if you haven't done the SYE yet, figure another $300 so now the Teras not looking so good especially since you will need to add a rear driveshaft for another $275 anyways! So you can save 45-60% on the 4:1 with a used NV-241 at around $800 (already comes SYE)or you can add another $800-900 and get an Atlas II in 4.3 or 5:1. Easiest bolt on option is still the Tera (not including the buildup) because you won't need a new front driveshaft. The NV-241 OR Rock Trac Rubicon case gives you the best price even if you were to buy two new high end bigger 1350 U joint ($700 worth) Tom Woods CV driveshafts you're still less than the Tera! An Atlas II gear driven unit will give you the most brawn and gearing options with twin stick independent Hi-Lo in front or rear axle but is the most expensive at around $2350 just for the box give or take. I installed a Rubicon 241OR almost 4 years ago as one of the first conversions of this type and it's been in flawless operation.

      Here's the breakdown:

      TERA 2-Lo:

      $1050 Tera 4:1
      $150 HD Chain Kit
      $250 2-Lo Kit
      $300 SYE Conversion
      $275 Rear SYE Driveshaft
      -----------------------------
$2025 Plus $??? in build labor if you don't yourself

NV-241 OR Rock Trac 4:1 Rubicon case

      $800 Used 241OR
      $700 2 new Tom Woods 1350 Driveshafts
      ----------------------------------------
      $1500 No rebuild labor

ATLAS II By Advanced Adapters W/ Twin-Stick cables

$2150 for 4.3:1 or 5:1 Atlas II box
      $350 Cable twin stick kit
      $700 Tom Woods driveshafts
      ---------------------------------------
      $3200 No rebuild labor

      Bonus comparisons:

Dana 300 with Flip Kit installed in a TJ

$150 Used Dana 300 Transfer Case
$600 DEO "Flip" kit w/Twin-Stick Conversion
      $600 JB Conversions Lo-Max 4:1 Gear set
$200 JB or other Clocking Ring for flat tummy tuckers
$700 Tom Woods HD CV Driveshafts front & rear
      --------------------------------------------------------
      $2250 plus $??? Conversion/build labor

STaK Monster Box 3 / 2 Speed Transfer Case

$2900/2400 STaK Monster 3/2 speed box
$200 Possible configuration changes to shifters
      $200 Rear output "Brake" option
$700 Tom Woods HD CV Driveshafts front & rear
      -------------------------------------------------------
$4000 No Build labor STaK 3 Speed Monster Box Version
$3400 No Build Labor2 Speed STaK Monster Box Version

Atlas 4 Speed Transfer Case System

$2945 4 speed Transfer Case system (your choice of 2 range sets)
      $350 Cable Shifter Assembly
$800 Tom Woods HD CV Driveshafts/ Special Super-Flex Short Rear Driveshaft in a TJ
      -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      $4095 No Build Labor

These are the major routes one would usually go on a Transfer Case in a Jeep.... Enjoy!

        Victimville motors (the stealership) wants $3325- for a new 241 Scotty's wants $950- for a 241 outta a 2005 used. + exchange, scotty's will take a 231 as exchange for the 241.

for those of you that just want to drive down and pick one up across the counter...

Great info. Thanks! Scotty's scares me. I'd hate to ever go there and shop around or wait for a part to be located. Don't want to spend any more time there than I have to.

The was a local guy selling his recently on JF, asking $900. Not sure if he still has it, PM me for details if interested. Then you'd make a few $$ back selling your 231.

What's up with Scotty's? I keep seeing their ads and think I'll end up going there one of these days. Is it the people that work there or what that makes you feel like that about Scotty's?

Never been to Scotty's myself, but the few times I called them for a price on parts, they were outrageously expensive.

Scotty's is always going to be more expensive than getting the hookup on some cheap jeep parts from 'us' .... I have never herd any complaints about Scotty's other than price. The fact is they are sick-o cheap compared to the stealership, but nobody is gonna beat a yardsale price. it all depends on yer time to money ratio....

The counter guys are great. I bought an axle from them. The yard guys even popped open the diff so I could inspect the gears myself and they sealed it back up for me. I think it's the location that creeps me out. It's out in the middle of BFE Fontana. You walk in and open sliding glass doors to get around and they slam shut behind you with some sort of weird homebrew rube-goldberg contraption. You walk through trailers or shipping containers or something to get to the counter. It reminds me of a traveling haunted house carnie type deal. I just get the vibe like you do not cross any of the employees because they have lots of places to hide your body.

Scotty's is like any wrecking yard low buck all the way. You can get some good stuff from there. However they are pretty proud of their parts

Here is some more fuel for the great debate lol.
Stack case you cannot flat tow most likely the same for an atlas not sure about that though.
For a 241 case you need to swap the yokes on the transfer case or both shafts and the yokes on the diffs since the rubicon uses larger u joints.
For me the terra low was the cheapest solution to get what I wanted. $815 for the conversion kit and about 15 bucks for rtv and dextron 3 fluid.

You can always cheap out and get a combination u-joint from summit.

You can get the combo U joints from almost any parts store but that kinda defeats the purpose of stronger shafts and u joints doesn't it?
