  • enough banter... let's see some progress...

    • We're doing a bunch of "little" projects right now mainly because the parts are coming in, so we might as well do what we gotta do now. We are prepped and ready to cut the frame and insert 11 inches of rock hard extension... Ohh yeah baby. So this last weekend was spent taking measurements, cutting and fabbing frame supports and extensions, rebuilding a hydroboost and master cylinder that REALLY needed some lovin...

Fugly man. This is getting replaced.

Hydroboost is in great condition, considering it was attached to that master cylinder. This was on a cutVee somewhere in the desert for who knows how long.

New seals everywhere. Have to cut the pedal shaft, both to shorten it for the application and to disassemble the hydroboost

The accumulator still fully pressurized after all that time. (1986)

New frame support plates for the inserts. Two outside ones are 22" long. The inner ones are 16" long to fit between the cross members for the tranny/t-case and the rear suspension

A-Hole fab version of a plasma pattern cutter. Gotta admit, for the punishment I expose these cheap home depot and harbor freight tools to, they actually hold up well

I'll be vacationing in the Sierras for a couple weeks so this is it for now...

        • During all the silence there has been a lot going on at Ahole's garage. Finally pulled the trigger on stretching the frame. So now the CJ has a 105" wheel base, but it can go out to at least 110". The frame inserts worked like a charm, and now I'm putting the tub back together 11 inches longer. I stretched it at the door to make the opening a more ergonomic (easier to get in and out of for Nick) width. Nick cut the sections I needed out of the old tub and I remanufactured them to fit here.

These are the frame sections before:

          After:

These worked so well it took less than 3 hours to cut, stretch out the frame and install the frame sections.
          The tub:

almost there. Will do the other side Wednesday. Then the floor boards. The new tub has as much bondo as the old one does, but is still in much better condition. I'm curious and and a little frightened to see what this looks like when we get it back from the sandblaster. I'll also be welding the seat mounting holes shut. Won't need 'em anymore.

Yes. It. Is... but we're turning a big corner now. Body/frame is stretched. Roll cage will go in next.
