  • winch mount question

    what are you guys building your winch mounts out of?

    Most of the ones I see are 1/4 inch but smallest I would use is 3/16. You can buy winch mounch plates from a number of different sources like Ballistic and others. Also need to keep it as close to inline with the frame as possible.

      I was going to make it the width of the frame. I just wasn't sure if 3/16 was too thin

        I used 1/4 like this:





        Anchored by (4) 7/16 bolts to the frame rails and the 2 front anchor bolts for the winch go through the front crossmember.

        I think if I went any thinner than 1/4, I would be inclined to add some reinforcement underneath.

            I bought a slab of 1/4 inch plate and had a one inch bend in the back and a two inch bend in the front to mount the fairleed
            the plate is stupid strong and will not flex a bit
            I had to do a bit of trimming for the fairleed but that was to be expected

              I ended up getting 1/4inch and welded 3/16 for the fairlead mount
