  • Under the knife again

Here we go again... I have decided to make some more changes to the ol' YJ.
I am swapping the body to one that is a bit straighter and see if I'm able to do a bit better at the driving over the rocks thing and keep from smashing in all of the painted surfaces.

There are a few other changes that will be taking place as well. I'll be going with the GenRight hi=-line fenders, and swapping in a bunch of aluminum to replace the steel skids and other armor.

Here are a few pictures of the current state of my jeep.

The fuel tank will be moving inside of the jeep to a more centered location. I plan to build in an aluminum box where the gas tank was, and have it accessible from the inside of the bed of the jeep through the floor for some of those not so frequently used spare parts.

A pair of suspension seats, and harnesses will be in the mix as well as a new Roll Cage designed around my needs.

I'll post up some more pics as the changes take place.

Removing all of this steel and other accumulative heavy crap from the jeep has made the suspension rise up almost 5". I'm sure it will go back down a bit, but I expect a substantial weight loss in thiis endeavor.

I have to be on the trail by Thanksgiving, so it will be finished and capable before then. There may be a loose end or two, but it'll be wheeling.

Just what you see in the pictures.
the new tub is stripped and ready for paint. parts are gathered and ready to go. There is a lot to do and a short time to get it done, but I'm sure I have the right people working with me to see my needs, and time lines met.

Hey, while you're at it, maybe you can put in some round headlights.

                        Erik,
Looks like it’s going to be a bad ass trail thumper. Were you talking about the GenRight run for this Thanksgiving?

                          Erik,
You're sticking to that comment "I am swapping the body to one that is a bit straighter and see if I'm able to do a bit better at the driving over the rocks thing and keep from smashing in all of the painted surfaces." ? I'm skeptical :hide:

Can't wait to see it though. I'll have to get my heep back on all fours as soon as possible to come watch! Lookin good.

LOL, I'm skeptical too I still want to start with a clean slate, and see how it goes.
I just received my Hi-Line fenders. Those are sure pretty.

At least with those, there is less surface area to smash into the rocks

                              here are some updated pics.

The new bodyis fitted on there and ready for paint. How's about that crane

That is a sample of some of Blaine's ingenuity from the oil field days. It worked wonderfully and spared our backs.

The new GenRight Hi-line fenders are on there and the hood cut to fit. It is a bold look with the fenders raised up there. The Inner fenders are also fit and nicely shaped.

I'll have to get pics of those later.

The center section of the jeep is raised up to flush, and will be getting an aluminum skid.

Over all at this point with the weight it has lost, the shocks have gone up 4" in the rear and 2.5+ inches in the front.

I'm sure it will go down a bit as the job progresses, but it will have lost an estimated 500# by the time it hits the trail on Thanksgiving weekend.

More pics to come as more progress is made.
Thanks Blaine and Chris for all of your hard work.
