        92YJ,

I took the easy route and bought a OR-FAB swing out mount for my 88YJ. $525 plus $90 for my mechanic buddy Ken in Hesperia. This took a little extra drilling and Fab but turned out very tight and solid. There is no rattle at all and I mounted Septer plastic water and gas containers and it is clean and nice! OH by the the way I don't FAB so this was easy for me.

Nice rack Mitch. I like the way your cans mount inside like that....That doesn't sound right.

            Come on Chuck,

Don't get all worked up... I liked the fact that the cans were up against the tail gate and tight. Also they are relatively low to get a decent center of gravity but still high enough that I don't have to remove it to siphon to the main gas tank.

Hey great that is too funny, I found a pic of that rack online somewhere and that's what I was modeling my rack after. After looking at your posts I'm pretty sure it was YOUR jeep I saw it on. I also like the way that the cans fit inside. Anything about the rack that you would change or would work better?

                Dan,

So far everything fits tight and solid. I ran up and down some trails and no rattles or movement at all. My mechanic said that it took a little extra drilling in some places and some extra adjustments to the tailgate but it was a staight forward install. I'm glad I did this before my spare tore off my tailgate. Also, I origally saw this set up on Jason's (Calfireguy)YJ at the Calico Cleanup.

ive always been fond of the ORfab set up but the price tag is so high. im thinking about doing a homebrew design with 2x2 3/16 tubing just like that but with 90 degree turns instead of the bends since i dont have access to a bender. around 70 bucks in material. heres a few links for you homebrewer's.

                        Dan,

Here's a couple of photo's from the inside. The brackets wrap around the roll cage and mount down the side as well as mounting to the back bodywork with beefy brackets.

Well I was hopeing to get it done this week, The last day off I've had was the Calico run. But insted of working on the rack I have to tear the trans out and hope that the problem I had was a pump going out.

Thanks Mitch, I was tring to come up with a way to re-enforce the brackets if I need to. I've go a few changes I might make in the latching so I'm still working it out. As soon as I get the jeep back on the road again I am itching to get back at the rack. I will keep ya guys updated and probley ask some advice to the direction to go next.
