Is it possible at all that the new fuel pump is causing the problem? It appears to be getting plenty of fuel to the carb but I just don't know.

crazy_wolf I just noticed that you're from Hawthrone. I was just out their a couple of weeks ago with my wife, she had to meet with the school Superintendent. I just killed some time looking around town.

What it take to look around town............a milli second? lol...not throwing stones....just having fun. The first time I went to Hawthorne.... I was moved by how remote it was.

love it in Hawthorne for all the reasons above. I can go 4X4ing in seconds have no dum laws, like you have to stay on the trail or BLM will get ya lol. But really family been here since 86 all thou I moved away in 89 and just moved back its always been good to me get paid good and the price of living here is cheap as hell.

Coxing? Is that the guy that yells in a bull horn at the rowers? Do you do that on Walker Lake? Speaking of Walker Lake what month is the best for fishing? I've fished it only once before from boat and didn't do so well.

Up and running! The problem was somewhere with the Disturburtor cap and points. I don't know why this would of happened at the same time my fuel pump went out but I thinking maybe the backfire that happened when I tried starting it with the starting fliud?..... I dunno for sure but thanks for all the help.

Ok I'm going to show my mechanical abilities here..lol
The manual says Point Gap (in) 0.016 and Dwell (deg) 32. Does that mean when my points are on the high side of the little cam thingy should be 32 and 0.016 when not?
                thanks for any help,
                Dave

No. It means that when the points are on the high side of the DISTRIBUTOR CAM LOBE, the opening should be 0.016". When the points are on the low side of the cam lobe, they should be completely closed. If you have a dwell meter it means that the points should be closed for 32 degrees of distributor shaft rotation (and open for 28 degrees of distributor shaft rotation; 32 degrees + 28 degrees equals 60 degrees; 60 x 6 cylinders is 360 degrees of distributor shaft rotation). When the points are closed, electrical energy is sent to the coil. When the points are open, the energy is discharged through the spark plugs.

If you have both a feeler gauge and a dwell meter then set the points using the dwell meter. If the dwell is less than 32 degrees, decrease the point gap. If it is higher than 32 degrees, increase the point gap.

If you have an automotive electrical multimeter, the dwell reading is usually one of the options; or you can buy a separate dwell meter, but I prefer to get a multimeter because you can use it to check your voltage, amperage, resistance, dwell, etc.

I wondered why you used eBay instead of running down to the neighborhood Autozone, but I just realized where Markleeville, CA is located. If you need a dwell meter, check this out, it's on sale: Actron CP7676 closeout sale

Thanks for the replies. I'll set that point gap today.
When I get a few extra bucks in my pocket I think I'll do the Duraspark up grade.... sounds like a nice way to go from the research I was just checking.
                      thanks again,
