i have 1 question..........ok here it is.......on my dana 30 ok.. my yoke i guess it is called that the drive shaft bolts on is missing one of the teeth and was wondering do i need to replace it or take it to a local machine shop and see if they can maybe weld a little tooth back on it ?? i guess it broke off when i broke the bolts to the clips that hold the u joint down. just trying to see what my options are a new one is around 90 bucks shipped to my door and im lookin at prolly around 20 bucks at a machine shop puttin a new tab on it.... do you think this will work or will it make even more problems

or maybe someone upgraded to a u-bolt yoke and has the old spare laying around.

the yoke stands to take a lot of pressure. i wouldnt cut corners on that one by welding on tabs.
replace with a good used one or new

Id 3rd Erik & Brian on this, Hint: When you install the new or new-to-you one, if you do it yourself be VERY careful as your "short" pinion front D30 in a TJ Wrangler has a crush sleeve to set pinion depth which in turn sets contact pattern on the Ring & Pinion. Id recommend don't tighten the replacement unit down more than 14-16 ft-Lbs & make sure you have loctite on the threads as there won't be much torque holding the nut in place as a precaution to the nut loostening up & future problems. If you over tighten that nut when replacing the yoke, it will upset your contact pattern & you will have to replace the pinion crush sleeve to re-set this correctly, (read this as completely set up your ring & pinion in the axle again).

        Just some friendly FYI...

the FSM said something about measuring the the resistance of the yoke turning. it was something like 10 to 15 inch pounds or something. don't quote me on that... check the manual.

Do you mean the little tabs (1/4 x 1/8) that hold the U/J caps in place.

              If so, they suck

I was thinking of making a half circle plate and welding the sides of the yoke closed. As it happened I changed the whole axle. But this might make a repair stronger than stock.

I have a spare yoke lying around if you want it. You pay shipping and it is yours.
