Bigger axles

I am planning a trip to the Junk yard looking for some new axles.

The Pick and Pull here in Victorville Ca. offers a wheel barrel special. one of anything that fits in the wheel Barral is only $100

My Freind from Bigbear and I picked up complete front Dana 44, Ford 9in bigbearing rearend, Right door to a 91 Dodge and Hood, Misc. Small parts.

It took 3 of us to push the D@m thing up the hill.

Anyone have any opinions about the Ford 8.8 axle swap for the rear? From what I've read it sounds like a strong rear, fairly easy and affordable to swap in, and if you get one from a 97 or newer explorer you get disc brakes too.

The only real drawback with the 8.8" is that it is a C clip axle. Break the C clip and the axle shaft will pull out of the diff and your wheel will come adrift.

The older 9" does not have this prob.
