  • D35 blah, blah....DOH!

After all that :poop: I was talking about the D35, mine had a mishap today

The driveshaft UJ strap/bolt arrangement blew apart

So technically this was a *driveshaft* failure

A screw - a few screws - OK *most* screws are sheared off in the axle yoke.

Can anyone recommend a tougher yoke with the U bolts.

Is it possible to drill the yoke for u bolts? Not looking at one, I have no idea.

It's what I did when I did my SYE. Bad pic but you can still see the u-bolt.

i drilled out the strap yoke on my 44 and ran it like that for quite awhile. you'll most likely have to grind some to get the ubolt nuts to fit. I ended up using 2 washers per nut for extra clearance.

that being said i recently got a u bolt yoke for my axle. much better fit. not sure if they are available for the 35.

Check 4wd hardware, i got a kit with a new yoke with u-bolts for about $40-50...I believe you can get the same thing at Randy's ring and pinion as well. It was a driveshaft "failiure" remember anything that straps on is not as good as real thing.
