  • BROKEN Lock Right

well, i have been having a periodical BANG from my front end while on the trail. i was not sure if it was steering or what it was. i went through and checked, and re-torqued all of the steering componants, and it continued.
    bummer.

next was to open up the front diff and see what in the hell was going on in there.

    this is what i saw..
if you look at the pins in the center, they are mangled up in there.

    so out it comes.
i plan to order up a warranty replacement for the time being, and replace it with the cool guy arb when i get a few more bucks.

here are some more pictures of the wreckage.

notice how wobbled out the holes are on this thing.
not good. those are sopposed to be round, and machined to a tight tolerance to the pins in the next picture.

there are only sopposed to be 4 of these pins.
    they all broke in half.

oh well, i guess it is par for the course.

      no doubt about that.
i guess a trail fix would be to weld the 2 parts of the locker together to make it a spool.

Wow ... yah glad you found out the problem! Sounds like that might have been a ticking time bomb for a bigger disaster.

So what do you think you did to bust it?

i have no idea which time out killed it, but i have been hearing a BANG sometimes on the trail when it is stressed.
i wasnt sure if it was steering or something in the diff. now i know.

it is ironic that it is a DAM locker

Did it continue to work properly the whole time the pins were snapped? I'm running lockrights at both ends, and have had good luck under some hard stress. I did have to re shim the side gears after the first time out with the front one, but nothing due to the locker itself.

out east we used to snap those pins fairly often. we'd cut a drill bit apart and make new pins for them... of course you have to catch it before the holes look like yours do...
