On a clutch type LSD this is true until you reach the brake away torque such as a track-lok, once the Track-loc reaches (BAT) all the torque goes to one side. The clutch breaks loose on the tire with traction and all your torque goes to the tire getting no traction. The clutches need to slip whenever the vehicle corners so they wear out from normal driving. The Trac-Lok clutch pack is very small and sits under the side axle gear, it is barely any larger diameter than the side axle gear which is another reason they don't last long and have a low breakaway point. I've read some people actually add an extra disc when replacing clutch pack which helps to tighten it up and maybe increase the breakaway torque some. The picture shows the small clutch pack assembly.

I added some extra shims when I had one of these in my 8.8. I also changed the order of the clutches and steals. I got that thing so tight I coudnt have added .05" and still got it in the carrier. When I was all done I could barely feel it stomping the parking brake helped. I took the whole
thing out eventually in favor of an Aussie. Those left standing

I love the Aussie in the front but in the rear it can make driving around town with a manual trans very difficult. It locks when torque is applied but it tends to unlock when you clutch then lock once you've shifted, while in a turn this requires you to slip the clutch more so the rear doesn't jump.Last edited by guardian7; 05-30-10, 11:38 PM.2006 TJ, 4"Full Traction Ultimate, SYE, CV, 35" MTR's on Champion Beadlocks, WARN 9.5Ti

My detroit works good. I am glad I switch over from a auburn electric locker. I hardly notice it unless I want to. Its all about learning how to drive with it properly.Last edited by Jeeperator; 06-05-10, 11:38 AM.
