On a clutch type LSD this is true until you reach the brake away torque such as a track-lok, once the Track-loc reaches (BAT) all the torque goes to one side. The clutch breaks loose on the tire with traction and all your torque goes to the tire getting no traction. The clutches need to slip whenever the vehicle corners so they wear out from normal driving. The Trac-Lok clutch pack is very small and sits under the side axle gear, it is barely any larger diameter than the side axle gear which is another reason they don't last long and have a low breakaway point. I've read some people actually add an extra disc when replacing clutch pack which helps to tighten it up and maybe increase the breakaway torque some. The picture shows the small clutch pack assembly.
