well as of right now im going to eat up the 32s. the plan is if i can get the 8.8 with 4.10s then ill just get a hp30 with 4.10s from the pick a part. ill run it for a while. i want to go bigger than 35s. probably 38s or 40s like kevin did. and when i do that then im going to tons anyway. i just want to get it done so i can wheel it. i put the lift and tires on it. 500 miles later the motor died, on the way home the 3rd time from the engine shop the trans went or so i thought, and then it sat. i got another trans and t case. when i took out the old trans i noticed some cancer in the body so ive been fixing that. ive got 5 grand in a jeep that i havent even got to use yet. its been sitting on jack stands for 8 mos with a new motor and trans. im almost over it. if it were worth more on the blue book i would burn it and let the insurance pay me for it.

I figure most of what I've done focuses on off-road prowess so why stop now! I am runin a 4.0L 5 speed. Tough decision for sure...

I should be on the road tomorrow and I'll report my results....good luck
Todd-EH! How much did that fan help you with running the stock gears? Any major improvement?

Can I help add to the confusion? As has been said before, the factor whould be what tranny you are running. Some other things to consider, is your vehicle going to be heavily armored, are you driving in a hilly or flat terrain, will you be towing a trailer, what will be the vehicles purpose?

As for my 04 Wrangler I have 35" MTR's mounted on a heavy steel wheel weighing in @ 100lbs each. The Jeep is heavily armored, I have a trailer that has been known to be towed on the trail. Also driving the Cajon Pass or the San Bernardino Mtns I chose 5.13's. The Jeep will do 90 down the fwy which it does not need to do, rpm's are not that much different then running 4.88's. Lots to think about & we only want to do it once. Having all of us web wheeler experts on here can make it a little overwhelming. Good luck, do lot's of research!
Build it right the first time.

Knowing which axle you will be running will also help in the choice of ratios. Some axles have more choices than others. Also, while lower gears equal thicker ring gears, they also equal smaller pinion gears. As far as strength is concerned, you want the thicker ring gear, but you don't want to have fewer teeth meshing. The optimal point of strength will vary depending on the axle and carrier.

The 4.88 are in? What is your rpm on the freeway with 35" tires and 4.88?

Thanks Art. So, a 5 speed would be higher rpm on 35"?

Ron ask the guys that fallow me up and down HWY 38 on our runs. How I do with detroits F%R currie antirock and 4.56 gears. I think 35" tires with a 5 speed 4.88 gears is the best. But than again it's what works for you.

You didn't post your tire size, so I assumed they were 35". Is that correct? You have 35"?

Reason for asking is maybe down the road I might want to go with 35". But, I have 4,10 now. Just asking questions for now. Not ready to make the move on 35".... yet.

Ron when I did the build on this jeep. I set it up for 33" tires. Thats why it has 4.56 gears. If it was my DD I would stick with 33" tires. The jeep has been from the rubicon to moab on 33" tires, and to say that there is a big advantage with 35" tires, I just don't know. I think going to 35" tires was more work and money then it was worth.
