Where is a good place to get pinion/carrier shims in the Riverside area?

Ted, I am done with Dana 30's for now swing by and pickup what you need and bring back what is left over when you are done. Can show you how to get the bearings off without demolishing them also

Thanks Art, This is a little preemptive. I'll call when I get to that point. Out of curiosity, will the pinion shims from a 30 fit a 44?

The preload shims might, the pinion depth shims are bigger I think but I have those also. Just bring some of your old stuff and we can match it

I still need to pull the 30 apart to see the depth. The fun part is that my YJ is the daily driver, so I can't check the preload on the 44. It'd be great if the preload shims are the same. I just get a howl on decelerating, so that's where I'll start after I do the wheel bearings.

Howl on deceleration might be a pinion bearing.
I would do one axle at the time, a weekend is more than enough time to do one axle

Yeah, what I've seen on Randy's site suggests that it's probably loose preload on the pinion. I'd like to see if I can tighten it up first. The other option is to get a full bearing kit and do what I need as I need it. The booger is that I know I need at least one wheel bearing. They run $40 each. Pinion bearings are $40 each. The carrier bearings are $30 each. The full kit is $160.

You should be able to get a whole install kit for around 100 bucks of e bay. Randy's is expensive

I'm just looking at bearing prices locally. Autozone seems to be the best. I'm still working on getting that ARB from my buddy. He has the full install kit to go with it. It's not the 30 I'm concerned about. I just want to get the 44 to quiet down. There is an art to modifying your daily driver.

Randy's charged me ~ $12 shiping for $4 worth of parts. Gears are definatly more expensive there also.
