  • What is this on my 8.8?

I picked up my yj today And I am verry pleased. I discovered that the 8.8 axle is a limited slip with 31 splint axle shafts and disc brakes. But on the top front of the diff there is a black electrical connector with two pins in it. Its not conneted to anything. At first I thought it was a breather but then I found the breather about half-way down the axle tube on the drivers side. The connector has a ford part number on it. Any ideas?

Most likely a connector for abs brakes and or the speedo, Ford for awhile liked to run that from a reluctor wheel of the carrier

That is the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) used on all Ford 8.8 axles. You don't need it.
