  • Fire donations and volunteers

Hey MJR! There are a lot of folks being displaced by the fires burning all around us, and they need our help. Several organizations are asking for donations, and they want whatever you can give. Money, clothes, blankets, cots, food, you name it. I have been given permission to use my company trucks to pick this stuff up and deliver it where it's needed, so what I need from all of you is stuff to pick up! I have two trucks, and I will be starting this Saturday, picking up at different locations around LA and Orange County. I'll have those set by end of today. Please, help out with old clothes, blankets, etc. as much as you can. If you have questions, call me at 562-244-1414.

Thanks to all of you who help,

    Kurt

They also need pet supplies: portable kennels, litter boxes, litter, dog & cat food, food bowls, etc....

        Tents and air mattresses too.

Since I'm not on your route Rat, I'll drop my stuff off at the Victorville Fairgrounds

Assuming you'll be coming from Lancaster down the 15...they have an evacuee center setup at the Victorville Fairgrounds. I'm sure you can drop it off right there. I know that's where I will be taking my stuff.

I come down the 18 to 395 then to Bear Valley back to the 18. Where is VV fairgrounds located? I will stop by there. I'll include some dog treats too. I'll see what else I can come up w/ for people too.

                        Ok heres the scoop---

The Red cross has a deal worked out with Goodwill, and that deal is that GoodWill will accept all donations of goods (clothes, camping gear, blankets, etc.) at any Goodwill location in the greater Los Angeles, San Diego, and Inland Empire areas. If you drop off stuff at a GoodWill location please make sure to mention that the donation is for the Fire victims relief, and Goodwill will make sure that the victims get what they need. You should ask for a receipt; this may be tax deductible. If you would like to make a monetary contribution, please go to the Red Cross website at
                        http://www.redcross.org/donate/donate.html

If any of you have items that you want to donate, but don't have the time to drop them off at GoodWill, please call me and I will make arrangements to get this stuff picked up and delivered to a Goodwill location. Fishpoet has offered his services/truck, and if there is anyone else with a truck that lives in the Orange County, Los Angles and San Diego County areas that can pitch in with a truck, even for a day, please contact me and we can get donations picked up.

My phone number is 562-244-1414. You can email me @ diverk@hotmail.com or PM me.

                        Thanks again for your support.

There will be a red cross news release coming sometime, I thought it would have been out already, but as soon as it is I'll post it here.

thats awsome. I just posted that all contributions can be dropped at any GoodWill location, but if they need it picked up, just let me know.

I jsut got off the phone with the Red Cross. All donations to Good will will be esitimated and and a Red Cross voucher set aside for that amount, to be used by victims of the fires. These vouchers will be available at any Red Cross office. I'm working a list of Red Cross locations now. There is also a rescue center at the Orange Fair Grounds and all donations of camping gear, clothing, etc. can be dropped of there. Again, if you have something to give but no time to drop off, call me and I'll have it picked up.

Edit: Here is a site with all of the Red Cross chapters in and around LA and the Inland Empire.

                            Thanks again,

I have two boxes full of clothes, pretty nice cloths too. I dont have the funds right now to ship them out there, but if they need them bad enough after I get paid I can mail them to one of you if you want to take them.
