  • Hello, new kid here

Well im 16, getting my license april of next year, and right now im working at K-Mart making 7.00$ an hour. I've had my eyes set on a jeep for years now, and I guarantee it will be the first car I ever buy. My parents are gonna loan me some money, im hoping around 2,000$ since thats what they gave to my brother for his car, and im going to buy a used YJ jeep. I was wondering though, of what kind of jeep to buy. Im thinking YJ from '87 to '95 because of price, ive been looking on craigs list for colorado, denver, and colorado springs, since im in the springs, and fortunatly for me, the prices of yj's with a little over 100,000 miles on them are only around 3000 to 4000$ which is really nice, I thought I would have to spend over 6000, which would take me a while to make

Well my cousin was given a jeep, not sure on the year, I think 87, by my uncle, a few years back, but he being stupid, didn't accept the offer from my dad to sell it to my dad, and he traded it in for a honda prelude poser street racer car, which he couldn't make payments on, and my free jeep was gone forever. What should I be looking for in a used jeep? One thats upgraded, or stock. Im thinking of lifting it and throwing on some stuff, which the jeep my cousin got had 4 lights, 2 tops, 2 sets of doors, lifted and a winch Im only going to be driving it to and from school which is probably only about 5 miles at the mose, it takes me 15 minutes to get there. But living in the rockies and loving jeeps since I was a kid, im definatly going to go climbing and camping with it.

I was on the site before a while back, but slowly stopped getting on since I didn't have a jeep yet, and that may happen again, but I hope not since I should have one in about 4-6 months.

Welcome back! Good luck finding what you're looking for . . . too bad your cousin is such a bonehead! Being out in Colorado, it just seems like a Jeep is the only way to go.
That which does not kill me postpones the inevitable.

Yea my mom says well maby you wont be able to get a jeep for your first car, just get some cheapy thing, but thats a waste, I might as well just wait a bit and go for what I actually want. And it would be good for the winter, seeing as how they are getting worse and worse. And we have a huge ford F150 out front my dad never drives, so if I want a car, I can just use that one untill I get a jeep, he only paid 1000$ for it, its fine though, its not like I need a new 2008 car haha. Im just concerned on gas mileage a bit, but since im only going from my house to school usually, its no big deal. Isn't mileage for a stock jeep around 15 to 18 mpg?

Welcome to MJR! Good luck finding the right Jeep. Personally, I would go for stock and build up how you want it to be. Stock will be cheaper too! And, yes, stock gets a little better gas mileage.

I agree with Jule, get a stocker for the price and build it the way you want. Much more fun that way!

Yea my dad is agreeing with me, he says a jeep would be perfect for me and the snow, and the pricing is nice. Now I dont have the money for a jeep now, but im sure the prices will be the same when I do in a few months

This is what ive found so far

(Autotrader seems to be a bit higher in price)

*Great deal here, but one problem, doesn't pass emissions

              (another stock cheap one)

*This one has a few upgrades, still cheap

I would get a 91, the have the high output 4.0 with fuel injection.

1)make sure you get fuel injection.

2)make sure you get fuel injection.

                  3)DO NOT BUY A CARB JEEP! :thumbs_do

this will save you so much headaches, and the 91's will pass smog so easy.... :2:

^^ any years after 91, like 91 to 95 have fuel injection? Yea I know pains about carbs, we've got one on our boat, and man when we get up to the high altitude, that thing doesn't open at all, we're getting fuel injection on it next season.

Fuel injection is the best way to go. Especially in Colorado (at least from what I hear about the trails there). I had a 92 and the advantages over a carb are great!

After I experienced the affects of my avatar..., I have to be a fan of the non-leaking functions in a Jeep.

yeah, 91 to 95YJ have the Fuel injection, the 91-92 has the slant (CJ style) bar roll cage, the 93-95 have the extra roll bars for the rear passengers.
