  • Hi Guys

Nice looking forum you got here, thanks for having me!
Im in socal and go offroading and hunting all the time. Currently I been driving a 79 suburban 4x4 6 inch lift 33s with a built 454. Climbs like a champ! Never let me down. But I want to be able to fit down some trails like miler jeep trail to hunt and play. So I been thinking about picking up a jeep. Going to go with a 90+ cherokee 4.0 or if I find a deal a wrangler. Mods will be lift kit 33s lockers winch. Would a cherokee make it everywhere a wrangler would?

Welcome! To answer your question, that depends on who you talk to! There, now I've started something.

Probably one thing to consider is how much stuff you need to take with you. For example, if you have three daughters, I'd keep the Suburban!!!

Now you've gone and done it...

LOL (j/k) I've seen some guys on here have some very nice cherokee's that are more capable than my CJ (but then...so is my grandmother). Welcome aboard, have a look around...you'll see lots on the LWB guys.

It depends on how you feel about body damage.

Welcome Aboard! There's a bunch of us here on MJR from the Valley, so if you're ever looking to hit the trail, post up a thread so we can join you. I bet following you in the Suburban sure would cut down on all the pinstriping I've been getting down the sides of my Jeep! Now that Spring is here, I'm sure we'll have another Miller run soon . . . hope you can join us! Wrangler vs Cherokee . . . both are very capable . . . if you're keeping the Suburban, I'd recommend a Wrangler, but then again, my shotgun hardcase barely fits in the back of my TJ diagonally!
That which does not kill me postpones the inevitable.

Going to keep the burban for sure, I need that to tow my boat, besides you cant give it away, with that 454 bigblock and hollye 750 carb and comp cam I get around 9mpg! I just got back from frazier park last weekend hit up some trails in the snow, we had a great time! Aired down the tires and the rig just crawled over everything in its path! Then hit gorman on the way home to do some hill climbs. I like to scare my friends a lil. Dirtbikers were watching me go up some hills thinking im crazy. Not that lil obstacle course they got there.

Found a jeep, went out and bought it. Its a 92 cherokee 2dr 4x4 it was a U.S. goverment jeep lite green, the uglyest color I ever seen! Has the 4.0 ac blows cold nice interior, 160k 5 speed runs real good. Paid 1500 for it, only prob was it was so damn ugly! Yesterday I stripped it down took all windows moldings bumpers lights and everything off, A paint shop down the street from my work is going to paint the whole thing white for 400. After I get it back ( prolly take a month to reasemble it!) I was looking at rustys 4.5 inch lift and running 32 inch tires. They also got a long travel control arm kit for 750. mabey I will add that later. So with the lift tires All I would need is lockers and a winch. Being a goverment jeep at least they probally did all the services on it. Is 4.5 inch of lift a good hight? I hear if you go higher you got to do a lot more work to it

One of My sons bought a used USFS 4x4 pickup. It was very obvious that it was extreemly well maintained. And it never saw a lot of heavy off road abuse. You made a good choice. How about posting "before" and "after" Pictures?
