Gary (Recon ZJ) and I are going to run it Saturday morning if anybody wants to join. We're meeting at Flying J (Frazier Park exit on I-5 past Gorman) at 8am and leaving there at 8:15am for the trail head.

Probably for the better that nobody showed up to meet Gary and I this morning. We got to Frazier Park at 7:45am and started to gas up. I noticed a puddle under my Jeep so I got under and saw that the dust shield between the torque converter and the engine was chewed up and just hanging, sheared in a few places where the bolts on the wheel were hitting it. I then noticed the top bolt mating the bell housing to the engine on the drivers side is busted. DAY OVER for me! If somebody else would have made it I would have rode shot gun in Gary's Jeep.

...Damn, that's not fun..I've had my day over before it begun...In fact, it was Gorman...not more than 100 yards into Smokey Bear Rd.,a Park Utility fullsize Ram came around the curve...
..into my front left tire. Bending the leaf (this is when I had my YJ :doh) collapsing front shaft, and finally cracking the Tcase wide open :omg:
What a :poop:y day that was.

I would've tried to make it today, except I didn't get home from work until almost 5am....and I want to go tomorrow, (this reminds me of Schmo's post)but my CB that I ordered online, didn't come yet....must of been same vendor ,
..at least two tires need to be balanced (must of thrown a weight or :dunno:....)
:shout:

Hey Sandy, if you take your Rubi, I'll take mine!! Well, that's all I have to take
I mean, are you gonna go Sunday now?

David, can't go Sunday or I would have just gone with the original Sunday group. One day has to go to family and chores. Have fun though.

Sandy, glad it happened in the parking lot and not halfway thru the trail. How did you get home with it?

I just drove slow back to Santa Clarita. I have a feeling that the driver's side bolt holding the tranny and motor may have been busted for a while judging by the rust where the bolt head is broken off. It's just an area tucked way up that I wouldn't have even thought to check. I guess the passenger side bolt must be tight. The shield on the torque converter is broken in two where the bolt on that wheel was ripping it. My hope is that by replacing that shield and putting a new bolt from the bell housing to the motor solves the problem by keeping the tranny from moving around. If that's not the problem then the ZJ may be up for sale. Wife has kinda had it with the money spent on repairs over the past few years. I was convincing on the upgrades but we never contemplated all the "stuff" that has been breaking in the past three years.

Sorry to hear about the ZJ, Sandy. I hope you can get her fixed and back on the trail soon. Let me know if you reschedule the Miller run as I'd love to join you. I need to crawl under the jeep but I think I made it thru John Bull intact . . . it was pretty knarly.

Glad you had a good time in Big Bear. Gary and I are rescheduling Miller for September 1st (the Saturday before Labor Day).

Sounds horrible, Sandy...I hope it turns out ok....If it means couple of us comin' over to help, let us know. We'll make a BBQ out of it. We'll fix 'er with only 2:beer:s and a sausage
But seriously, if can be done at home, post when you propose the surgery...and I'm sure a couple of us will be able to.

Now, about Miller..
I'd like to go with you guys....but I think we are planning a trip to central coast area that weekend. (Maybe quick Pismo play on the way back, anybody interested? )

I just ran it last weekend, but from Gormin down. We got tricked at the Flying J's. A Sheriff came over to us (there were 3 of us) and informed us that "the trail just closed yesterday" and that "CHP would be at the gate issuing citations to people found in or at the trail.."
We couldn't get a straight answer about the whole thing, so we just cruised through Gormin...And @ the top of the Alamo....:omg: we saw couple groups, coming out of the trail.... we also passed a couple more.
I don't know what I am getting at, really. Maybe, I am just sharing so if you encounter such info, even if it's from the , don't trust it...Just use the force, Luke..:geek:
It is REALLY DUSTY there, I mean :censor: dusty, still cleaning...

But still loads o'fun.

Thanks for the offer but the tranny needs to be dropped to replace the plate around the flywheel so I'm letting the shop do it. Supposed to be ready Monday or Tuesday. Are you saying the trailhead is or isn't closed from the Lockwood side?
