  • Jeepin Colorado 2007

It sure is hot and windy here - we've been gone so long I almost forgot! For our jeep trip this year we headed to Ouray and Almont, Colorado and surrounding cities like Gunnison, Crested Butte, Silverton and Telluride. We saw many ghost towns like Animas Forks and many teeny tiny towns like Crystal and Tincup.

Rick's dad has been building up an XJ and brought the fam out from Michigan and met us in the mountains. Most of the trails were easy by our Socal standards, but almost every single one has us on the edge of a giant cliff at some point. We followed a few maps we picked up in town along with the Colorado Backcountry 4x4 Trails book.

By day 2, Rick had determined that his new engine was making some bad noises. How could we have driven 13 hours to wheel - and have a broken jeep!? So, we rented a Rubicon with 7500 miles on it (which we nicknamed "Medium Red" hahaha) and left the CJ in town for the week.

Official trail reports to come this week, but we rode:
    Corkscrew Gulch
    Ophir Pass
    Mineral Creek
    Part of the Alpine Loop
    Poughkeepsie Gulch
    Red Mountain Mining Area
    California Gulch
    Lottis Creek
    Devils Punchbowl
    Tincup Pass Trail
    Cumberland Pass Trail
    Hancock Pass Trail (Continental Divide)
    Antelope Trail
    Almont Trail
    Pearl Pass Trail
    Taylor Pass Trail
and I'm sure I'm forgetting at least one or two!

    Here's a few preliminary photos:
