*URGENT - OHV LEGAL ALERT*
OHV ORDINANCE REVIEW - SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY ORDINANCE REVIEW JULY 24th, 2007

(NEW DATE!)

PLEASE FORWARD THIS MESSAGE, PASS OUT THE ATTACHED FLYER & POST IT TO YOUR WEBSITES.

WE NEED A MAJOR SHOWING OF SUPPORT FROM THE OFFROAD COMMUNITY. Every rider, every member, every person in support of OHV Friendly Legislation must be present at the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisor's Meeting on July 10, 2007 to show support for the revision of Ordinance 3973. A great deal of effort has gone into the revision of this ordinance. Remember, San Bernardino County is the largest county in the country. Many popular OHV areas, such as Johnson Valley, Sunfair Dry Lakebed, Landers, Havasu Lake, Needles, Wonder Valley are all located in San Bernardino County. We ALL must protect these areas.

The Anti-Access groups intend to make a large showing at this Board meeting in opposition to the changes and to advocate against the OHV supporters.

As many of you already know, the offroad communities are in a serious fight to protect our property rights, as well as our rights to offroad. Without your support, we may not succeed.

A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH ANTI-OHV LEGISLATION IS THAT IT IS PASSED BECAUSE OHV SUPPORTERS ARE NOT PRESENT TO VOICE AN OPPOSITION. MANY OHV SUPPORTERS ARE UNAWARE OF WHEN/WHERE TO BE PRESENT. PLEASE PASS THIS ALONG TO ALL YOUR MEMBERS & SUPPORTERS!

Sincerely,
Jenny L. Doling, Esq.
Legal Counsel to the OHV Legal Defense Fund

I might be teaching a class that day; if not, I will be there.

Well, no wonder there the turn-out to fight anti-access groups is low! The scheduled the hearings about these issues happens to occur when the rest of us TAX-PAYING types are at work!----Nothing like a representative form of government!
I will plan on attending-mainly because I happen to be on vacation that week. I'm going to take my son with me so that he can see how these types of things impact his future.

They have these meetings during work hours because that's when the legislators work. We have to make the effort to go to these meetings if we want to make as big an impact as the anit-access groups. We all get vacation days at work; burn one if you have to. I am.

And here's something else to consider. If you go to this, or any meeting where we represent Off Roading, be sure you have something constructive to say. Pointing fingers and complaining build resentment, not trust. If you can't speak fairly and with conviction, don't say anything, but be there. Numbers count. Check out the links Matterdaddy put up.

Although the Board of Supervisors meeting begins at 10:00 am, a large crowd is expected; the first link that Mat posted recommends that we arrive by 9:00 am in order to get a seat.

Date Changed to July 24th!!

The date of the San Bernardino ordinance 3973 discussion has been changed; here is the announcement from Friends of Giant Rock:

-URGENT-

Off Road Ordinance Date Change

June 19, 2007

During the County supervisor meeting this morning Mike Hawkins presentation prompted supervisors to put ordinance 3973 discussion on the agenda for the meeting of Tuesday July 24, 2007. Changed from our recommendation of a possible July 10th to a confirmed July 24th agenda item is good news. The reason was that Supervisor Mitzelfelt would not be able to attend on the 10th. We feel that input from Brad Mitzelfelt is a good thing for our case. Comments from Supervisor Hansberger reflected the need for a change in the ordinance. This was a good meeting for us all. Sorry about the date change, hopefully you can make arrangements. Friends of Giant Rock will be at both meetings in case some folks don’t get the message. Please change the date on any flyers you may have to reflect the 24 of July for the meeting to be at. All else will remain the same. It is imperative that everyone including business owners are at this meeting to explain the negative economic impact the ordinance will have on their business.

Is a proposed revision of the ordinance available before hand? What is the purpose of going to this meeting? Can we see the revision before attending? I'm a little confused still. Is this just to sway the board in favor of revising it which would happen at a later date?

My uncle sent e-mails to a couple people to see if he could find out any more information, and he didn't find out much. Here's what he said:

enabling ordinance and the code itself. This is the one that was adopted in
July, 2006. I haven't been able to find out the purpose of the discussion
for the upcoming meeting. One of the Supervisor's staff members e-mailed
the following:

"The hearing is now scheduled for August 21.

This is the situation as of now:

Code enforcement has not proposed any changes.

The sheriff's department has not proposed changes."

I replied to him asking what the purpose of the meeting is since it doesn't
look like the County has any plans to change it. I'll let you know if I
hear anything more.
