I left La Habra at 1pm on Friday and had camp set up in Serrano #97 by about 4pm. John, Matt and I headed for 2N04 (NAXJAs Adopt-A-Trail) and picked up some trash along the way before heading back to camp. Temps Saturday night fell to 29°

Malachi had emailed me a month ago about wheeling 1N01 Pipes Canyon all the way down to the gate. I knew I was going to be in Big Bear for the So Cal NAXJA fest and we decided to run 1N01 Pipes Canyon on Saturday.

Mike and Sharon in their TJ, Jim and Mandy in their White Cherokee, Stephan and Sonja in the "Hot Lips" Black Cherokee, Tony in his USFS Bronco and me in "The Black Pearl" met at Hwy 38 and 1N01 at 10am on Saturday. We found the gate open to 1N01A and drove to Onyx Summit. Back down 1N01A and then down 1N01 Pipes Canyon all the way to the gate.

We had lunch at Pipes Canyon Campground. The Freelanders were working all along 1N01 which is their Adopt-A-Trail.

After reaching the top again we headed down 2N64Y to Doc's Cabin. Continuing down 2N64Y we passed Juniper Springs Campground before heading East on 2N01. We headed West on 2N02 to 2N90 Tip Top Mountain.

We ran all 3 fingers of Tip Top Mountain and even climbed to the Peak.

Back at 2N02 we said goodbye to Mike, Sharon, Jim & Mandy as they headed Southeast on 2N02 and back to Hwy 38 to meet other friends for dinner.

Stephan, Sonja, Tony and myself headed Northwest on 2N02 back to Hwy 38 and back to Serrano for dinner and a raffle with NAXJA. We sat around the campfire until 10pm. Once again the low Saturday night was 29°.

Sunday morning after breakfast in Fawnskin I headed for 3N14 to 3N11. I took 3N11A to Liberty Mine and Wright Mine and then over to 3N17.

Continuing East on 3N17 I took some pics of Suicide Hill.

Continuing on to 3N16 and then to Big Bear for gas and home by 6pm.

Temps on 3N17 reached the low 70s. Quite a range of temps this weekend.

Thanks for posting our Saturday run, FishPOET. Also, thanks for letting Sharon and I tag along in a TJ. It was a great day! Lots of new territory for me. Here's some photos from Saturday that I liked:

        Top of ONYX PEAK (1N01A):

        PIPES CANYON (1N01):

Great Views Looking Down the Canyon:

The Gate at the USFS Boundary - Too bad this gate will probably never be open to vehicle traffic again:

A highlight for me was pulling out the full-sized Bronco!:

        Climbing Back Up the Canyon:

        2N64Y:
"Swinging" by Doc's Cabin was fun:

        TIP TOP MTN (2N90):
2N90 and its spurs were great for views:

        2N68Y:
Doug, thanks for the advice on 2N68Y! It really is a fun little climb and made for a great run back to the 38:

Sharon and I had a great time. Thanks for letting us tag along!

We took lots of photos. If you are interested in the rest, follow this link:
