  • Corral Canyon/Los Pinos Mtn.

Ok, Los Pinos road down through Espinoza trail was graded. All the deep ruts and rocks had been smoothed away, leaving me very disappointed. It may have been nothing for a heavily modified rig but for my stock jeep it was a moderate run. Maybe after a few good storms, it'll become a bit more difficult. I did head on over to sidewinder but I think I'll need lockers to complete it.

Nice pics. Sidewinder is a lot of fun. But definitely a bruiser for a stocker. I haven't wheeled Mt. Pinos. I'll have to go some time.

    Thanks for the report.

Thanks. Yeah, I got a buddy who has a pretty tricked out rig. Soon as he has it up and running again, we'll have to head on up there. I had just put in a 2.5" lift on my jeep and was wanting to get in a good trail run. This next weekend we'll be running ocotillo wells, then anza-borrego at the end of the month.

Or you can try Bronco Peak, if your up to something more of a challenge but not quite ready for Sidewinder. Just dont go alone. You can read our write up on it. We just posted.

Yeah, looks like you guys had a blast. Which trail is more difficult, Bronco Peak or Sidewinder?

Per the Charles Wells book, Sidewinder is "locker required". Wherein we did Bronco without lockers and still had a great day. Bronco's tough spots are in the downhill after the top. Downhill rock crawln, some off camber. Just pick your line, take your time, and be prepared for some scraping and bangin as you go down with your 2.5'' lift.

                Have fun,

Bronco "connector" has a double black diamond rating according to the sign at 4 corners. I was out there 2 weeks ago to see if it was actually open. From what I've been told, sidewinder is easier than Bronco Peak. I'll find out as we're heading out with some of the socalxj guys in a couple weeks. Sidewinder seemed pretty easy, but I'm on 33's with lockers, and my intro to 4 wheeling was at JV, so everything seems moderate after there.

Hi MarkW. I see that this is your first MJR post. Have you been Lurking for a while? You should introduce yourself on the "Your Rockin' Jeep" thread. Post some pics of your rig. We love photos around here! Welcome to MJR!

Seems like you know this area. Any hints for the best runs?

Actually the real MJR mentioned your forums this weekend up at Big Bear with the Naxja group. I'm mostly on the socalxj list, and wheel with those guys. I'm right behind 4x santa on the big bear pic thread. Silver 91 XJ. I'll go over there and post an intro.

Here's another video from Kevin of Sidewinder socalxj run.
We're looking at going out there again on the 19th. Haven't firmed up meeting time/place yet.

Looks like I may be back here sooner than I thought. A friend of mine has real nice ZJ that he was gonna take to Ocotillo Wells with me, but as its getting so hot out there, we may just end up going to Corral Canyon. If we do, I'll be sure to post the pics!

If your up to it, a bunch of us XJ guys are headed over there on the 19th. Not sure the meeting time, we're probably going to shoot for 9am at 4 corners for airing down. Most of us are locked on 33's. I did sidewinder a couple weeks back on my recon run to see what was reopened. Neighbor wants to do Bronco peak in the hard direction.

Ok, posted... Learning the area, takes 30-35 minutes to drive out there, so it will probably be my testing ground. I'll know more after our run on the 19th.
