  • Fearless' Folly at El Mirage w/Pictures!

We members of the Roughwheelers IV Wheel Drive club of Redondo Beach were invited by the Freinds of El Mirage and the BLM to create a new trail out in El Mirage. The result is Fearless' Folly.

We explored and mapped terrain for months before we pulled this all together. We cleared brush where needed to make the trail obvious. The trail is still only marked with blue flagging tape. Some markings may be missing since the last work party we had out there was in October.

We are interested in hearing any feedback. The Freinds of El Mirage have their 8th annual El Mirage Days cleanup and poker run on the weekend of May 6&7 2007, if you are interested in checking out to a new area to camp and play.

Thanks for the post! Great work and hats off to everyone who helped make this happen. This is so close to home, I love it! Do you have any trail pics?

A new trail! AND close to the house! That's a nasty thing to do to a guy who always has a monkee on his back to go Jeepin'.....

Hhhmmmm? When can I get a day free?

Alas, I have no pictures. I'll see if other club members have some they are willing to share.

The El Mirage trail is the reason behind the Desert Jewel getting all her upgrades. The Victor Valley 4 Wheelers went on this trail while the Roughwheelers were out there working on it. It is a well marked trail and was a lot fun. However, I would not recommend it to anyone who isn't lifted and locked.

The Desert Jewel did it with 32's and a winch, but suffered all 4 lower control arms and rear drive shaft being bent, plus the transmission case was pushed so far up against the floorboard of the Jeep that there was no steering and major death wobbles. I had to be strapped numerous times and made good use of the winch. $7000 later for the new 4" RE Long Arm suspension, 1" body lift, rear locker, rear drive shaft & slip yoke eliminator, raised gas tank, and 33's....the Desert Jewel can't wait to take on the El Mirage again!!!

If someone is planning a day run, please let me know - I'd like to go and test out the new goodies!

OMG, i can't believe all that damage!!! So you guys went out and physically built a sick black diamond trail?? then you tore the crap outta your jeep, then upgraded it ALL! that's 1 wild tale for the ages my man! i'd love to try that out sometime if alot of capable rigs go too.

                Fearless Follies

The Roughwheelers have a trip planned to El Mirage the weekend of 17/18 of February. Probably go and run the trails that were cut and hopefully try and create some new ones.

Mr Chips - I think majority of us will be helping with the Calico Cleanup that weekend. Hope you can join us for the cleanup and then plan the El Mirage run for another weekend!!

Desert Jewel, I was thinking that maybe you should trade that Jeep in after all that damage, for something stronger, like a MACK truck?

Where's El Mirage? Ok...... Lets go. Rat will pull me through, I have strap handy. Still no lockers, but a good lift and lots of articulation. Makes for a good challenge, just dont bounce the wheels, or we'll break a joint or so.
Hmmmmm....maybe I'll just let you guys run it first and let me know about it. Thats a lot of repair 'Desert Jewel'.

Yes, the Roughwheelers '07 schedule was created back in December before any of us knew about the Calico cleanup. Being that Calico is one of the club's all-time-favorites, I'm sure they would have scheduled it had they known.

Our Feb. El Mirage run is a trail maintenance run, as well as exploring new stuff.

HA-HA...you're funny! I would never trade in the Desert Jewel!! She's all fixed up and ready for anything now. It's amazing what she did all stock, can't wait to see how much more she can do with all her new goodies!
