  • Nightmare Gulch Jan 27th

January 27th - (Nightmare Gulch) - I am running the Nightmare Gulch in Red Rock Canyon over to Last Chance Canyon. Meet at Primo Burger in Mojave at 8:00AM and leave at 9:00AM. Anyone wants join the fun just show up. I will have my CB on channel 5 and go by Guardian. guardian7@verizon.net
The MOU with BLM provides for the road to be open to hiking the first through the 15th, then open to vehicular traffic the last half of each month, except for February 1 - June 30, when it is closed to all entry for the raptor nesting period. We respect this closure to ensure that the trail remains open to vehicles on its current basis.

    ROLL CALL

These pictures don't show it but this Canyon is very challenging!

I really want to go explore this trail, but I can't do it on the date posted. Could you tell me where the trailhead is for this? How do I find this canyon?

The Canyon is much harder than Last Chance and and requires a lot more spotting over large boulders and tight sqeezes, which means you will need assistance navigating your Rig. If you want to go on another date you will need to do it this weekend or next weekend because it will be closed come Feb 1st until July 1st by the BLM. Entrance is on the East side going North on 14 Fwy about 20 miles north of Mojave in Red Rock State Park area. Once you start up the trail you come to a T where you turn right toward Scenic Canyon.

Thanks Guardian. Yeah, I went to the Red Rock Canyon State Park site today and saw the restrictions. Anyone who wants to run this one should take advantage of the trip that Guardian is putting together. It will be the Last Chance (pun intended) until July due to restricting the area for raptor nesting.

This thing is looking good. Might make it. Is there a spot to park tow rigs or is driving up there better?
