This is the second time I have heard of OHV trails at Lawrence Welk. I am assuming they are south of Temecula near 1-15? Any and all help locating maps and or trailheads would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Doug, I can't do maps like you have, but the best I can do is this:

From the north, take I-15 south to Gopher Canyon (Lawrence Welk exit) and go east towards the resort. Turn right onto Champagne Blvd. Take that south to Lawrence Welk Dr. and make a right. Take Lawrence Welk Dr. under the 15 and turn Left onto Lawrence Welk Court. Follow that until the gate at the end. There are no signs that say it's private property or anything, only one that says No Dumping, so I'm assuming it's all public roads.

    This shows the roads:

    This shows the satellite:
    http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&z=17...07296&t=k&om=1

Hope that helps! I'm hoping to get a GPS some time this year. I'll give waypoints of this area if and when I get one!

I don't know if you meant for this to be an open invite, but I might be able to get free on one of the days this weekend. Let me know what the plans are. Are you thinking of doing Lawence Welk again or something else?

Sweet deal, any trail you really wanna hit?

Thanks, I was invited, so I guess its not really "crashing' but should be fun.

                Back on topic

Thanks for the google maps Matt.

Sunday sounds good to me. When and where do you want to meet.

I have heard conflicting rumors about that land up there. It's not really public, not really private, and not really legal, but not really not legal. It seems as if it's in some kind of limbo.

The last time I was there (acouple years ago) I saw a lot of construction, and figured once the houses were up access would get sketchy. I had also heard (very unsubstantiated) that there was some law enforcement presence that was discouraging use up there.

Did you notice anything out of the ordinary, or any increased presence from any type of authorities?

OH, and re-hijack: I'm going to the Hammers, too!

I've been stopped by the police up there a few times, from what they've said to me, its less then legal, but every time, told us to have a good time, and if we see anything suspicious (Ie, stolen cars, drinking, drugs ect) to report it.

No law enforcement, and as I said before, only signs I saw stated "no dumping" but nothing on the order of "private property" or "no trespassing" or anything that would lead me to believe it was illegal to be there.

The only odd thing was a group of guys we ran into shooting out there... I didn't hear any shots, but they had a rifle. I'm hoping they were just illegal shooters, not drug guys running a farm out there. They could have had the gun to use on us depending on the situation, but when they saw we were just casual offroaders, left us alone. Am I paranoid, or are the stories I hear true?

Trails in Johnson Valley... sledgehammer, jackhammer, clawhammer... some of the toughest trails around. I think they're all "body damage likely" trails. Breakage all the time from what I hear.
