Well, wife and I finally went out on some dirt instead of the asphalt this last Saturday. There is a place nearby in Joshua Tree called Sunfair Lake. At least that's one of the many names I've heard the place called. The awesome things about this place are that it has a dry lakebed so there is plenty of parking for groups of all sizes to camp, grill or catch some rays. The trails are good for novice up to some pretty challenging ones if you want it (or so I'm told because I'm just a newb Jeeper and couldn't rate a trail if it bit me on the rear.) About the only downer is that there is getting to be a few tons of trash out there ranging from car hulks to washer and dryers that have been used for target practice. Just about anything that doesn't have a driver in it gets shot out there... so yea, that's not so kewl. Probably a great location for a "Stoddard Valley" type project. If we had a local 4x4 club around here, I'd probably be in it and suggest putting something together.
But I'm wandering off my subject...
So we went out to Sunfair Lake, just the wife and I. I led in my oil leaker (to leave a trail in case we get separated?)

I had a destination in mind already, which was some old abandoned mineshafts on the north side of the area. I'm not sure if it's an OHV area or not. But I took my Jeep all the way up to the shafts, wife wasn't feeling well but trooped out there with me anyway, just didn't want to climb over any rocks in her Jeep.

The wife left her YJ back within view while I banged my junk up and down on some smallish rocks going to the mines.

Exploring around is a lot of the fun for the Mrs. and I when we head out in the Jeeps. These mines are a favorite of mine to head up to. I forgot my flashlight so we didn't go all the way into them this time.

We were going to head out the way we came in, which would have been more fun, buuuut I notice something was awry with the CJ's handling and had a look-see under neath of her... this probably isn't according to manufacturer's specs. It was a little odd getting her home.

Yes, I do think it's a good idea to weld the mounts on now.
Driving home we passed by this place... I had to take a picture of it... people out here are WEIRD.

I saw what Sarah did with the satellite photo from google maps... so I thought maybe it would be kewl to include an overhead view of the approximate route we took. So if you're bored some day, live in the hi-desert and feel the urge to go underground... here ya go.
