  • Pinion Mountain 2-4-06

I linked the Picture gallery from last trip to Pinion Mountain in the Anza Borrego Desert. I went out with my club Geared 4 Fun. There was around 20 rigs in our run. The Justruns group went about 10 minutes before us. They had about 10 rigs in theirs. We had some breakdowns, but it was a pretty fun day.

Great photos! Looks like an excellent turnout and a picture-perfect day. Thanks for sharing - we gotta get down there sometime.

Nice shots Steve! Unfortunatly for me your group was not the last. There was another group without experience. I caught them at heart attach hill.

Not wanting to be their tour guide I briskly went up and around them quickly.

How far up sandstone did you go?

        Steve/Nora,

Thanks for posting those shots; they're great. This is the best time of year to visit Anza Borrego.

          Vern,
unfortunately we didn't have the time to get very far up sandstone canyon. the day was getting along and most people with us weren't set up for the stuff sandstone has to offer.

After that we did Diablo. we had an interesting recovery effort there. the task was to pull a non-running landcruiser up diablo. we couldn't do it even with 3 jeeps in series. just kept digging in.

          Still, it was fun.

You guys must of bogged down in that sandy spot 3/4's from the top. Any pictures of the tug of war?

You guessed it. 3 jeeps w/35's and 4.0 engines almost made it up but the soft sand at the top bogged us down. I think we could have done it with a 4th jeep. Anyhow, a guy at the top winched on the #1 jeep enough to get him to harder ground. With his traction the rest of us managed to pull the cruiser up. It was a good experience except for having the top down with jeep #1 shoveling sand on me.

Yeah I got picture about a year ago with a group that one jeep was not locked. They wrinched him out . That sand gets real soft on the up hill.

Hey I need someone to ride shot gun on the next run. Need a camera person. Whats your dad up to?

                  Vern,
Your private message box is full.

My dad can't make it. I think my mom's getting pissed that my dad's out with the jeep every weekend for almost 3 months straight. He opted out to keep things happy on the homefront.

I'm sure nora wouldn't mind snapping a bunch of picture for you. We'll be moving slow and there should be plenty of time to take pix.
