Is this trail closed? I heard from Just Runs that it was.

I know there was a recent controversy dealing with sacred burial grounds. But I think there have been a few times over the past years that it's closing was imminent and it never happened.

I don't know if this tribe receives money through Indian gaming. These casinos seem to be doing really well financially. I just heard a news report that CA's Indian casinos made more than Vegas. Maybe they just don't need the hassle of collecting chump change from off-roaders when they've got better sources of funding.

Los Coyotes to become a Horse Camp

I did a little research and got a link.

That website hasn't been updated in over a year.

LCIR closed at the end of Memorial Day last year. They were going to try to open an equestrian riding park. The latest rumors say that the horse thing fell through. They've been trying to do this for several years, and just don't get it that nobody, ESPECIALLY in the area they are in, is going to trailer their horses there when there is SO MUCH open riding space in the surrounding area.

Somebody who knows somebody who talked to somebody else who supposedly personally spoke to the tribal counsel said that they are now seriously reconsidering re-opening to 4 wheeling.

As far as I'm concerned, who cares. They keep playing with the off-roading community, even when we go out and clean up all their trash, and as thanks they raise their rates. I'm sure if they re-open they will raise their rates again.

And yes, as far as I can tell, all of the non-gaming tribes receive some money from the indian casinos. How much I don't know, but I remember that around the time Pechanga started to get big, an awful lot of new construction started at LCIR. It was also about that time that they started getting serious about the horse thing, too.

If they upgraded the campground and put in some decent facilities, then I could stomache paying the fees they charge to camp and wheel there. Otherwise, forget it. I miss it, but not THAT much. The only thing they had going for them, from my point of view, at least, is that they were very, very close to my house, making spur of the moment wheeling trips possible.

                .
I don't really give two bits one way or another about LCIR. But, having been there many times, I doubt that all the trash on the reservation is from them. I'd suspect that the largest portion of it would not exist were it not for the wheelers using the trails. We were really cleaning up after ourselves.

I disagree. Do you remember the big cleanup that happened a few years ago when they were threatening one of their famous closures? I was there. That was a HUGE event, and a lot of trash was taken out. A lot of it was old abandoned cars and parts that had been dumped on the reservation.

I'm not saying that we don't have to police ourselves, but I seriously doubt it was wheelers who dumped cars, dryers, washers, old couches, etc. on the reservation.

Anyway, it doesn't matter. If they re-open, I'll probably go back one time and try El Hill again, and after that I'm done.

Do you think the Indians dumped the stuff, or instead, like Johnson Valley, anyone and everyone dumps stuff they don't want or need?

And yes again, I remember driving over the buried car on Dangerous road several times. I also remember following a pair of early CJ's down that road and marking their progress by the beer cans being tossed out every 100 feet or so. I also remember the fender stapled to the tree with a screwdriver that did not look like it belonged on a 2 wheeler.

While some non wheeler detritus may have been collected during the clean-up, the majority of the trash on the trails that I collected was tail light lenses, beverage containers, food wrappers, and broken mechanical parts. Stuff you find on trails where the normal person going to dump something doesn't get to.

But as you said, it doesn't really matter, I was not a fan of the clean-up effort anyway. For all of my snivelling, I always considered the place pretty clean for as much traffic as it got. I also figured if they charged admission, they could put out a patrol or two and blackball offenders, or offer a reward of free admission if you showed up with a couple of trashbags you'd filled out there. Of course, a dumpster at the entrance would have made life better for everyone.

LCIR is a little more out of the way than JV, so I think it would take a lot more work to dump there. People who are too lazy to go to the dump are also too lazy to go too far out of their way to dump stuff illegally, I'd think. I've seen a lot of the local indians going out into the hills to party on weekends, though. And I've seen plenty of dumped cars there. I remember once coming across an Audi TT way out on Ladybug Lane.
