So last week, I get an Email from Desert Patty. She asked if I would help her find an elusive little known arrastra near the Big Horn Wilderness area. Sure!! In said. She gave me what sketchy information she had and I went right to work studying my topo maps, Google Earth, and other maps I have.
We met this morning along with Kevin 1BadFNZ, and Patty's husband Steve. We started the trip by visiting some of the historical stuff around upper Johnson Valley. The geologist's cabin (slab), another old cabin foundation, petroglyphs, the Rock Cabin, The Rock Corral, and The Rock corral picnic site and spring.
At our last stop, we actually found the arrastra and a rock hut about 3' high!! Very similar to the one in Rattlesnake Cyn. but way smaller.
The weather was wonderful for August. It maybe hit 90 today, but we had a lot of cloud cover and a gentle breeze.
Oh, and of course Kevin and I had to stop to clear the trail of a dead Joshua tree. That's What MJR AAT members do...
More photos forthcoming...
