  • Trail Run: Anyone up for a day run next week? 21st- sometime?

    Hey all !

I'm still off work due to back surgery. I'm healed enough wheel; just no heavy rock crawling until my Calico run posted March 8th. Anyone feel like doing something dry during the week? No mud or snow for me..

That link is showing 15N to 18 South to Old woman Springs Rd. Is that how I want to go? Does that run into your meeting place?

I might put Cougar Buttes into the "heavy rock crawling" category, if your back is still healing. Certainly on par with calico, or better. From what I remember of Calico, I'd say CB is probably more difficult? It's more big bolders though, and less ledges/waterfalls.

          CB is fun though

Ya, I've never been to Calico so I can't compare. I would agree that CB is at times some heavy crawling, but you can make it as easy or as difficult as you would like as well. I suspect it would be fine for the back since you usually have good traction and aren't ever really needing to bump over stuff, or drop hard off of something. My wife has rods and screws, and I have a herniated disc and we usually feel that CB is a bit smoother than some of the SBNF trails. Any other thoughts folks?

Yulp! That looks right to me from what I can recall. We are going to be coming down from Big Bear that morning so I think we'll be coming in from 18 as well. Let us know if you think your back is up for it, if so we'd love to meet ya! As far as I know we don't plan to run anything too hard, maybe Cakewalk and/or Bullfrog. I'm not trying an Hammer stuff till after I get some A-Hole Sliders.

              Lorie,
Take I-15 north to Bear Valley Rd (In Victorville)
East on BV Road to the junction of Hwy 18
Continue east on Hwy 18 through Lucerne Valley.
At the 4-way stop in the middle of town, continue straight. This is now Hwy 247 heading towards Yucca Valley.
Turn Right at Camp Rock Road and just after you turn is where the guys usually meet.
              Hope this helps.

Let me fix this up a little bit, take 134 to to 210 then the 15 like you are going to Calico, take the Bear Valley exit in Victorville/ Applevalley, turn right onto Bear valley road. Follow Bear valley till it ends at HWY 18, turn right on HWY 18 follow it past Lucerne Valley. Turns into 247 at the 4 way stop in Lucerne valley. Just keep going straight at the 4 way stop.
about 4 or 5 miles later there you will come up on a right turn in the road and an intersection, this is the camprock rd and HWY 247 intersection, turn left, it you get there around 9 you will see our Jeep at the side of the road cannot miss it.
3 years ago I did all of Bullfrog and most of Cakewalk in my lil Jeep on 32's. So you can do it, most if not all the harder stuff you can bypass, it's a really fun play area

careful going from the 210 to the 15, last week going to CB, there was a ton of construction going on around there, and you couldn't get onto the 15 north from the 210. I had to go south on the 15 about 3-4 exits before I I found an exit that would actually let you get back on to the 15 north. The "15 north detour" signage was horrible, they would tell you to get off at an exit that wouldn't let you get back on the 15 north. If you actually followed the detour signs, you'll never get back on the 15 north. haha!

So if the 15 north is still blocked from the 210, just go 15 south a 2-3 exits (wish I remember which one it was!) and then get right back on the 15 north again. Good luck! It took me 20 minutes to get onto the 15 north, trying to follow the signs. haha!

I should probably get gas when I get out there..it's right around 3 hours from my house. Where should I stop? Is there a gas station at or around Bear Valley exit or do I need to stop before that?
