  • Trail Discussion: Devils Canyon Trail Discussion.

Saw this thread http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1038209 on pirate and thought it would be a great trail to do in the future. I think we are out of time this year but maybe we could get a group together to do it next year. Back in 2006 MJR and Jeepholics did it after 40 years of non use and 7 went in and only 4 finished apparently.
http://www.4wheeloffroad.com/eventco...yon/index.html. From what I can tell its not a extremly hard trail but 35" tire an 2 lockers are recomended. Its probably about the same as some of the easier Hammers trails.
It seems you have to apply for a special permit and possibly get insurance for a group of 15 people to do this trail as stated on the bottom of this page: http://icorva.com/index.php?option=c...ures&Itemid=75 . Not sure about the insurance thing can anybody here give some details or any info they might know about. I noticed miguelitojeep who I know is on mjr, went on the run maybe he has some input or details.

If you read that article I am sure you read that it's basically closed unless you meet all permit requirements. Basically the same requirements as they have for KOH as far as insurance and all the other hoopla

Warchild are you sure were talkin about the same trail if you are post some pics and any experience about getting insurance and the required permits. Maybe that jk traction system works better than I thought. Art those guys on pirate just did this trail yesturday with 12 vehicles so its not completly closed as long as your group gets a permit. I wanted to see if they or anyone knowledgeable would share the process for getting all the permit requirements. This is not a sanctioned event or race dont think insurance would be needed but I could be wrong. Ill post up over there and try and find out.

They ran the permit with help of the TDS thing, they found away to tack on all the permit requirements with that event. Seems to me for info a post in that thread could shine some light on it or pm Mcgyver on this board since he ran that trail with this group

Sent jsmith a pm over there we will see if he responds. I did see you have to apply for the permit 6 months in advance so it definatly wont happen till end of this year or next year. Seeing some of the pic and videos I really doubt anybody could do it without lockers. There some pretty nice jeeps and buggies doin it also. Some longer videos are being edited and should be posted over on pirate fairly soon.

Got a reply from jsmith on pirate and heres what he said:
"You will need event non-speed/competition insurance. They also made us bring an EMT along as well.

Other than that, it's just a paperwork drill 180 days prior to the run.

The initial permit fee is $100 which covers 20 people. So any over that and it is $5 a head.

And the trail was awesome. No complaints from anyone."

Geez! What you have to go through just to use a good trail nowadays.

Start looking for a wheelin bud that's a EMT for starters, we can rig 2 stretchers on their 4x4 like they did on MASH

Yea really good luck with that. Starting to look like more trouble than its worth. Sucks! so much red tape just to run a 2.5 mile trail.
