  • Trail Discussion: Reward Mine and Manzanar

Today was day three of adventure with Mike (Deepwater). We headed out this morning early to check out the Reward Mine before heading back home. The Reward Mine is 6 miles east of Manzanar in the Lone Pine area. There are around 20 adits and shafts in this mine complex. Still lots of wood structures and fun things to see. But the main attraction is the main haul tunnel. You can drive a vehicle in it almost a half mile. This is the most cool thing ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Main haul adit

Inside the main adit this set of ladders went up and up and up!

Incredible views from the mine area

1 More quick stop on the way out

Okay, Reward Mine just got added to my Bucket List. I didn't know that it existed until now. Please send me some some directions or a GPX.
IMO Manzanar is lacking substance but, with imagination, it is a really cool place to tour. If you reflect on it, you have to appreciate the historical significance of it.

There is a new video coming out in September called "The Manzanar Fishing Club". I saw 25 minutes of it on the intranet. Very thought provoking. Manzanar held 10,000 people at one point. History is amazing when we study about it.

              Photos came out great Mitch.

This is my live action video of our Reward mine tour. I'm tired of crawling into mines, from now on I'll be driving in.

The video turned out excellent. Great editing, seemed like we drove down there for 20 minutes. One of my Best ever trips!
