  • Trail Run: Tour of Johnson Valley with Newspaper Editor 5/6

    When: Friday May 6th
    Time: 9:00 AM
Meeting Location: The Leader Newspaper Office on Highway 18 in Lucerne Valley. It's on the south side of the highway near NAPA Auto Parts.
Contact Frequencies: CB - Ch 04. Ham 146.550.

The newspaper editor, Kris Reilly, asked if I could give him a tour of Johnson Valley. He's never been out there and would like first hand to see what is at stake should the Marines take it. It would be great if those of you who are available during the week could join us.

I was thinking that maybe one of you with a really capable rig could take him up one of the Hammer trails. I'll photograph it!

    Hi Roger!

I'm off Friday, I will let you know later in the week if I'm a 100% definite.

I made a phone call to see if I could find someone to take him into the Hammers Trails, and unfortunately, its just too short of notice...

I've got lockers and 33's and no good sense. I'm willing to tackle the milder Hammer

Okay, but this isn't just a hammers trip. after a tour of the hammers we're going to run to Soggy Dry Lake and then to Anderson Dry lake. We are trying to give him an overview of just how large JV is, how much the Marines want, and how much we will loose.

Thanks Tam & Art. Jeri Lyn, you sure you want to do that??

Like I said, no good sense. You've seen my jeep's scars, right? Carolee is coming also. Sounds like a great day for a great cause.

Yes I know while well meaning .... Some of those pics could have been edited out and replace with some more appropriate pics of some of the local jeep club events and the D37 race events where the camps are more family oriented and people are doing more responsible offroading but it is a good thing to spread the word of this ...

Can we send The newspaper editor, Kris Reilly better pictures a than the ones used here..?

I could put a call to the D37 website for help......

We had a great run today. the Editor had a great time and I think he now has a grasp of the the size of JV. We even took him up the first 200' of Sledge to the first turn-out. He had a blast. Hopefully Jeri Lyn will post up some of her photos.

                          Roger,

You should have crawled him to the top in that bad boy Jeep you have! Hopefully he will have more of a sense of why we need a place like that to relax and enjoy. Smart move to take him out and build that alliance. Did you forget your camera again ?????
