  • Trail Report: Arrastra Canyon 3-16-11

Tammy and I went back out Jeeping today just east of the Lester Dale Mining camp to Arrastra Canyon. This beautiful area has a lot of old mines and related things of the west wall of the canyon. Of the 6 mines in this canyon, all were collapsed at the entrances or the over hang had washed in. There are a few spots you can see into just past the washouts and the tunnels are standup height. Not for me to explore. Old soldered bottom tin cans from the early 1900's are scattered about. Lots of old mining trails to check out. We did see some nice sized Chuckar today. There was a little water flowing down Arrastra Creek at the end on the trail. After enjoying the beauty of this secluded spot we headed out just before sunset to head back to Hesperia. 5 hours Jeeping today and we did not see 1 person or vehicle once we were off the highway.
