My jeep's rear suspension got banged up at Truckhaven last weekend so I need to get it fixed before I head out again. I did this going up one of the steep hills there. I hope to make the next one and Mottino sound great.
I was out in JV today checking out about a half dozen new mine sites, and found some really nice mines I've not been in before.
The first few were in the Fisure Mt. area near the trail head of the Fisure Mt Trail. The others were part of the Gold Peak mining system. I amazed at how much mining has gone on in the JV OHV area.
I was going to add a couple of these to the mining tour this Sat. We should have at least 4 major mines to go in, most have a lot of wood structure still inside.
I sure whish that we could get some history on these old mines. Old pics of when they were working them or talk to somebody that was there. Most if not all of the old miners are gone now, maybe their kids might know something?

It would be interesting to know how much money these mines were bringing the old miners.
I went past the Los Padres mine and it is completely filled in, with no sign of an entrance. The others were along a 4x trail in between the Los Padres and the Fisure Mt. trail
So you walked the plank! There is a bunch of workings down those ladders. I hope someone takes some pictures down there one day. The Emerson looks nice. I have to get out there soon.
When we explored the Hartwell Hills to build the Hammer trails, we would find old mule trails on ridges which would lead to a series of glory holes. Some of these mule trails were elaborate works of art built on mountain sides and requiring an investment of labor dwarfing our own. Such a trail can be seen in Clawhammer as it runs from Means Dry Lake high on a ridge above Emerson
Mine and beyond. Thousands of small rocks stacked maybe ten feet high in places and making a narrow gradual trail for miles tells me the men of those days could really work.

I noticed a mine high up on ridge by the Los Padres, but no road to it. So I guess they were accessed by mules.
As I was coming up from the Los P mine to Emerson Mine on what looked like an old truck trail at one time, but now is all washed out, there was a 4x canyon going to the right of the Emerson mining area - what trail is that? In fact it looked like a couple of the canyons had 4x trails up them.
