  • Trail Discussion: Fry Mountain Mines

Today my friend Tammy and I took Scott and Lesa out to check out some mines in the Fry Mountains. The cold morning turned warm with beautiful blues skies and a slight breeze. We ended up in 5 different mines and also did some exploring. A perfect day out in the desert.

Right away I tried to get Scott stuck on a little short cut to the first mine. Notice the rock on the exhaust pipe.

There was a strap involved, and Tammy cheered us on

Going to the first mine there are a couple of obstacles

    The Squeeze

    Mine #1

Both Lesa and Scott crossed this old bridge inside the first mine tunnel and went back another 100 feet

This is under the board that they crossed. It goes down to other levels and is 60 feet deep.

This is mine #2 in the same area. Lesa had to climb in and check it out.

    Off to mine #3

Off to mine #4 Lots of rocks on the floor and old timbers

Mine #5 Lots of rocks on the floor and old timbers

    Awesome view from mines 4 & 5

          Nathan,

You have good judgement! The last two mines are a little crazy. I normally avoid going in those two but something spured me on. Probably won't need to do those again! Now that I have been inside over 80+ mines out there I plenty to revisit.

              Curtis,

Are you ready for the easy fun stuff? Too bad it is such a haul from beautiful "Y Town".

                Mines are addictive

Once I found a few mines, I couldn't stop! I've almost driven off the trail looking up in the hills for tailings...need to go hit this area up. Thanks for the awesome pics!!

You bet I'm ready. My jeep is just rotting away sitting in the carport.
