HA! That's funny because we were discussing what we would need to do to get up that nasty fall. I'm sure that the park service would frown on trying, but we can still daydream.

If you are looking for fun and scenic, I highly recommend the South Park/Pleasant Canyon Loop. It is my favorite trail in the DV area. As far as the group thing or striking out on your own, it's your call. The trail is pretty clear so going it alone or with a small group is reasonable.

That guy was an idiot. Way over loaded. Chicken rock really isn't a big deal although we did have a XJ with us last year that got scared and paniced, she turned up the hill and rolled all the way to the bottom.

We went down to recover the Jeep, rolled it on its wheels and started it right up. I drove it out with the help of a winch. Took us 2 1/2 hours to get it out but then another 8 hours to get it back to base camp. It didn't steer very well and we ended up towing it out.

The kids in the XJ walked away. The 2 dogs also walked away. The driver had to be air lifted to Arrow Head. That is another story. Don't rely on "SPOT" to assist you when needed.

That 'idiot' was Dirtman13. He hasn't loaded the Jeep like that since then. But he flopped it regularly anyway until the built the monster Jeep that he has now.

            Russ/John,
When on Thursday are you planning on leaving? I haven't decided yet if I'm going to go up the 14 or the 395. I kind of sit midway between the two. It's an either/or situation.

Jason/John (and anyone else who wants to travel with us to Panamint Valley Days on Thursday, November 11), let's leave from the parking lot of the Denny's Restaurant on Hwy 14 and Sand Canyon Rd at 10:00 am.

              CB: Channel 12
Ham: Loop Canyon (WINSystem) repeater 448.900 (-) 100.0

Since it's a holiday, the rush hour traffic shouldn't be bad, and that should give us about three hours to set up camp before sunset (4:45 pm).
If you don't like the way I drive, stay out of the bushes!

                    Gas

Got a heads up about the gas stations out around there.

a little heads up. There is word that there may not be any gas in Trona this year. One station is closed to clean the lines and the other is closing. You will be able to get gas in Panamint. So make sure to fill up before heading in.

Panamint Springs has a nice Shell station. It is about 15 miles from base camp.

Looks like I might have to back out of going to this event. To much to do before this event and not enough time to do it.

Yes. They have a side by side run scheduled. Look at ca4wd website.

Panamint Valley Days is a Cal4wheel fundraiser and your dues do go to keeping our trails open. You don't have to be a member to go or camp but if you plan on driving your Jeep on the organized runs you will need to join. I think there is a smaller fee to join just for the event.
