• Trail Run: Northern California - Klamath area...

Carmen and I are heading north for a week or so in the RV and were thinking of doing some wheeling... If we are alone, it will be some light wheeling... if we can hook up with a club or a group, then we might do a little bit more...

http://maps.google.com/maps?rlz=1T4G...ed=0CBwQ8gEwAA

Does anyone have any recommendations for that area? Anyone have any experience with the RV parks in that area? or do you have recommendations for trails, sights, etc. in northern California?

We are not locked in to the Klamath area... so, if you have any recommendations for other areas, we would welcome your ideas for that as well.

Anyone else going to be heading north around that same time?
Regards,
Randy

Ok... a slight change of plans... after researching everything we could think of, the area of Klamath seems to be out... We couldn't find any Jeep trails or OHV areas within a reasonable distance...

So, plan B is to head towards Tahoe... Anyone have any recommendations for the Tahoe area? In the Northern California Backroads book, we are now thinking of area 3 or area 4.

Some of the trails we are considering, according the above referenced book, are: Bear Valley Loop, Shirttail Canyon, Blackwood Canyon, and Corral Hollow.

Any recommendations, ideas, guidance, etc. would be very much appreciated.

Thanks.
Regards,
Randy

Corral Hollow is an excellent trail, rated moderate. The Slickrock trail is also an excellent trail, rated difficult. If you run it towards Alpine lake it's not bad at all. If you want a difficult trail try the Deer Valley trail just a little east of Alpine lake, it's like a 7 mile long John Bull/Rubicon trail.

Also the Highland Lakes road, rated easy takes you up to some of the nicest lakes in the Sierra's.

Charles Well's northern cal/ Sierra's guide book has all of these listed. This is a great place to visit. All of these trails are off Hwy 4 and within a 10 mile or so radius.

If your thinking of taking a shorter trip? I've been to Twin Lakes a few times just out of Bridgeport, CA. There's a lot more there than meets the eye when it comes to trails. Last time we took two jeeps and the trails seemed endless. On the South side of the pasture area off to the West there's a trail that takes you back into a awesome meadow and the trail looks like it goes deep into the Sierras. We had been out all day by the time we found this spot or we would've went further. I definitely plan on going back to see exactly how far the trails leads West.

On the East Side you have Bodie and several trails leading to different mine sites/ghost towns There's lots of trails that lead off to the East that'll take you clear into NV if you wanted to go that far. Should be a lot of info on this area on the net.

Here's a picture of a couple of my buddies in the Bridgeport area. You can get an idea of the terrain by looking at the back ground in the photo. In the photo your looking west into the Sierras. The trails were all easy going with several creek crossings on the West side of 395.

Another good place to get some more info when planning a vacation like this is on http://www.riderplanet-usa.com/ATV/t...ornia_list.htm . It's a Motorcycle/atv site but they list if the trails are for jeeps also and offer a lot of other camping info and pictures. I use that site a lot when I'm planning a vacation. Even gives some pictures on Coral mkjeepers is talking about. Here's a link directly to Coral on riderplanet-usa.com http://www.riderplanet-usa.com/ATV/t.../ride_3eb3.htm . Have fun!
