  • Trail Run: SBNF Tour

This morning, Dennison and I headed out from Hesperia via Hwy 173 to the Pinnicles staging area near Arrowhead.

We met Gary, his brother, and their friend Wayne and headed to Devils hole via 3N34X, 3N34, and 3N34D. Awesome flowers, running streams, and clear blue skies the whole time.

We drove down the steep trail to Devils Hole passing a few bikes on the way down. There was several Rhinos, and quads when we hit the bottom of the trail. The water level was down from a couple of weeks ago. We had just walked to the water and we saw a Southern Pacific Rattlesnake. by the end of the day we saw 5 snakes.

After the climb up to 3N34, Wayne and Gary headed to Big Bear and Dennison and I headed back to Hwy 173 via 3N34x. Of the several snakes we saw today, the one in the water eating tadpoles was the coolest!

After a quick sandwich at the Pinnicles area, Dennison and I went to Cedar Glen to the Malt Shop for something cold. Then we headed to the Village at Arrowhead and walked around for an hour.

Then we headed out to Hwy 18 and drove past Rim of the World on our way to Crestline and Lake Gregory We cruised around for a bit and headed home via Hwy 138.

We stopped at checked out Silverwood Lake on the way. And then passing our starting point 7 hours later, home to Hesperia.

Nice meeting you guys today. What a great day.

    Mitch

Great report and pics. We toured some of the same area yesterday. We were at Devil's Hole around 3:00pm and Pinnacles at 4;30pm.

Thanks Mitch, for being our tour guide to Devils hole. Had a good time. After we split off we made our way to Big Bear for lunch then we went up to Holcomb valley, Big Pine campground, and on out through Bowen Ranch back into Hesperia. I'll post up some pic's a little later today.

Thanks. After reading Mitch's post I am trying to get up there soon and a buddy has a rhino so I wanted to make sure that I was not going to get him in trouble.

Here's a few pic's I managed to salvage. Had some technical difficulties with the camera.

Wasn't looking where I was going and managed to get about a foot away from this bad boy.It just turned it's head towards my boot and then turned back and slithered away.

                        Gary,

What a great morning. I'm glad that you enjoyed my favorite "rock" in the mountains. Sure does look like Saturn with that quartz band running thru it. And Mr Rattles could have ruined your day. Thats a real popular play area with kids and pets, hope he slithers away and doesn't get someone. Nice meeting you guy's.

The way that Snake acted seemed kinda odd to me, almost like he's use to people walking around down there? I use to know how far a snake travels, watched a video on it a long time ago, but I don't think they never really travel that far from where they're born. Could be in this area all the time waiting for critters to come out for a drink from the stream? Probably looked at me and thought well thats dude is way to big to eat, why waste my energy. LOL

Nice meeting you and Dennison also.
