Organized Event: Jeepers Jamboree 2010

Hey there boys & girls.

My bro & I have been talking about the Rubicon trail for way too many years & it is finally happening. Planning to do the 4 day pampered run if any one else is interested.

Has any one on here been on a jamboree, any words of wisdom?

All I can say is it's a total blast. I've been doing it since 2005. The foods pretty good, not great, and there's always a rock band playing on Friday and Saturday night. And the bars only a few steps away.

The 4 day Jeepers Jamboree usually has more people attend then the 3 day Jeep Jamboree, but the 4 day one is a bigger party. It's a little pricy but you get all your meals, camping, the band, spotters, etc for your money.

Also, you need to get started very early on the first day no matter which run you do. It's best to be in the first 20 rigs. If your not, you'll probably get stuck several times in jamb ups due to people breaking or just getting stuck. I've gottin into Rubicon Springs as early as 2:00 in the afternoon an as late as 7:00.

Also, bring a swim suite. There's lots of places to hang around in crystal clear stream water and even a few places you can swim.

Rubicon is my very favorite trail Its difficult enough to be challenging, without too much of the danger factor.

That said, Id far rather do it in a smaller group. Plus, they go straight through from Georgetown to Rubicon Springs, where we usually stop and spend the night at Buck Island Lake (AWESOME SWIMMING) earlier in the first day. Straight through just makes for a very long day.

Unless youre looking for the Jamboree experience, Id suggest keeping an eye on the board for a smaller group.

Thank you for the input. I was shooting for a 2pm arrival time. Hoping to camp @ the closer site to the start of the trail.

Ron, any idea how early one has to be in line to be in the first 20? I am some what built & would prefer to not spend the weekend constantly waiting. Of course my driving skills might have me holding every one else up. haha

I didnt realize that the first day pushed all the way to Rubicon Springs, I guess I can't have my cake & eat it too.. None the less I see the Jeepers Jamboree running the Rubicon for wheelers as Sturgis or Daytona Beach are to bikers. It's all about the experience. Not having to worry about any thing besides wheeling for the weekend sound really good. My next trip in that area will be the Dusy & would definately like to get a few rigs together for a trip at our own pace.

I did the 3-day Jambo in August '06. Check in was on Thursday so they could rate your rig... highly modified left first, lightly modified left second, and stockers left in the third group. On Friday I lined up at 4:30 am, fifth in the first group of about 150 +/- Jeeps. We left Georgetown @ 6am and got to the springs mid-afternoon, the stockers rolled in just as it got dark. All you really need to bring is stuff you'd take on a camping trip, not including the 10 meals you'll get there. And the bar is fully stocked. I even took the helicopter ride, 12 minutes to cover the whole trail, what a blast!!!

And what JeepGal said, a way smaller group would be golden.

But the experience of the Jamboree was cool!!

I've done the Jeepers Jamboree 4 times and so far I've never been asked anything about my rig. They recommend you have a looker and at least 33s, but frankly, they really don't care what you bring. I Guess the Jambo in Aug is something else and they run it differently. All the Jamborees are always in July also.

They do want you to check in on the 3 or 4 day run at their home office in Georgetown, but they don't start there any longer. I guess in the old days they did. I usually get to the start at Loon Lake before sun up. That will get you in the front of the line. Some guys even leave earlier then that in the dark but you would miss breadfast. Not really necessary. They hand you a lunch bag and you take off.

Yes, going in a small group is fun, like doing the Dusy or any other overnight run, but the Jeepers Jamboree is all about the Jamboree and its history. It's a no brainer. Just bring your rig, a cooler with beer in it and a sleeping bad. The rest, they take care of. Most folks that do it on their own usually camp at Buck Island also, but the Jamboree does go all the way into Rubicon Springs.
I've heard pros and cons both ways, but I guess it's just personal preferance for me.

As for camping the night before the run goes, you can camp in the Loon Lake camping area for free. We've done that a couple of times, but I'd prefer to sleep in a bed the night before. Now we stay in Auburn and leave earlier for the start.

Also, here's a very good tip. If your trailoring you rig, we've found it better to leave it in Lake Tahoe. The Jamboree does have a couple of recommended areas to leave it where it will be safe. That way as soon as you've completed the run, your right at your trailor.
