  • Organized Event: King of the hammers

Just got back from King of The Hammers
    Here are some pics
    http://public.fotki.com/waagnl/king-of-the-hammers/

Thursday morning I met up with Steve, Fred and the Hundy gang at Johnson valley, for the fun part we decided to do a bit of wheeling and ran Big Johnson, fun little trail.
At the end of the trail my little Jeep developed some kind of funny squeal, so decided not to run clawhammer with the rest of the gang. Took a nice nap at camp instead, us old men need that after only 2 hours of sleep.
In the evening we had a good time around the camp fire with Mark and his compatriots, this is always good for entertainment.
Friday morning of to the starting line and watch the beginning of a very fun and eventfull day

    Then on to Chocolate thunder

Then on to backdoor to wath the racers come down the waterfalls

The finish of the first three finishers

Great pictures, Art! I wanted to go watch it, but had to settle for watching on the computer.

Agreed, good job on the pics Art. I ran across XJKevin and Roger as well as a ton of other people from other off road clubs and organizations that I know some of which I have not seen for years. It was a blast to say the least. A million people and some good vendors. Here are some pics where me and the crew was over at Jack Hammer and Sledge Hammer. Ill post some of the vids I have later on.

Notice the Logo sticker on the back corners of this KOH rig ? Mike Feagins got second in the LCQ and unlike many in the race he did not DNF

I had a great time out there. Unfortunately I forgot my camera but I spent the day working the pits for Dustin Webster. Although he rolled twice and had several issues to deal with, he kept on going, but didn't make the 5:30 cutoff time to continue on. It was a great day with Becca and friends!!

Nicole Johnson did great finishing 29th!! Go Nicole!!

Well I was on my feet from 7:00 AM until about 8:00 PM. I worked with Mr. Blain's crew which included Chris & Tammy, Eric and a few other folks I didn't know and have forgotten their names - sorry!

We first worked crowd control at the start line.

Next assignment was traffic control at the road crossing at check point five and Bone Rd.

Once all the cars finished crossing this check point, about 9:30 AM I guess, we headed east to the trail that leads to Sledge Hammer where the race course crossed it. Holy crap did we have our hands full! There were at least thousnad vehicles that crossed there and the crossing was narrow - only one way at a time. Most people were really cool and thanked us for our volunteering but there were were a few A-holes as you can imagine. Mostly motorcyle & quad riders. There were a few pit crew trucks that thought they could just cross at will and not wait for us to let them trhough. But I agree with Blaine - the racers have the right of way period. It was our job to keep it safe for them as well as the public. No one got a "free pass" across the race course.

By the end of the day I was sore from head to toe! Waving cars through all day and into the night made my arms fee like they were going to fall off, not to mention my back, calves, & feet.

Oh and it was great to see a bunch of friends and people I know! Jeff & Shirley - sorry I never made it to your camp after the race. I was dying!

I wonder when I'll find out that I won the 2009 tricked out Rubicon...

Despie fo the pain & agnoy, I hope I'm asked to help out next time. I really had a great time.
