  • Trail Run: Snow Wheeling in Big Bear

I'm heading up the Big Bear with a few other friends for some snow wheeling on Saturday. Just figured I'd pass this along if people would like to join in.

Just make sure your rig is capable and you bring your own recovery gear.

      Robert,

Sounds like fun. Hope that you can get there. At 6pm in Hesperia I've got 5 inches of snow sticking already. They say we could get 2 feet if it snows through tomorrow or Friday.

I'm relatively new to LA, 4-wheeling and this website. I may be interested in joining you this weekend. Have you any details on when & where you'll begin, level of difficulty you expect, etc?

If your planning on coming up to Big Bear this weekend, I hate to say it but there might be to much snow by then. I live in Moonridge and we've gotten about 24" in the last couple of days and it's still snowing and it's only Weds evening. If it keeps up I might not even be able to get out of my drive way. I'll keep you posted on the snow if you like.

We have Jeeps....there is nowhere we can't go!

We are all meeting up at the Discovery Center around 9AM.

I'll be the smallest Jeep on this run. We have 3 other rigs that are all on 42" tires. It's a bunch of guys from Iceland. I'm sure we can make it.

Just instilling confidence again Robert? Hell if the guys with 42's are from Iceland, they'll be bored in BB.

                      Yes sir I am

Yeah the Icelanders are all staying up in Big Bear for the week. They have no clue where the trails are up there. I figured it would be fun in the 4 Door JK.

I know the roads are closed right now....but the snow is going to stop before tomorrow according to the Dartboard 7000 (aka the Doppler Radar).

Just came up pass. 10-15mph! CHP escort. Plowers up there removing ice (I assume). Roads were bad. 36* coming up the hill. Clowns hauling the mail up the hill until they hit the crowd going 15mph just blows my mind. Be safe.

This sounds like fun! I'm down for the count right now. But I would love to be there. My more scary wheelin' was in the snow, onthe shadow side of Gold Mountain when the snow got too thick & icy. we were cruising through virgin snow, maybe 16" deep all up the front side, having a blast. it was taking too long, but we didn't care, that's what we were there for! but when we got around back, the snow was a lil more than 3' thick and icy. The lead jeep hit a spot in the trail where the trail goes down but the snow had drifted level- his jeep was stuck in about 4' of snow, tires were not even close to the ground and ice was forming around all the warm parts, like the axles & stuff. Then it started to get dark and cold and we started to freak out a lil. But hey! I'm still here! it was a good time, have fun!

According to the Snow Valley web site they got 3 feet of snow over night. This week their snow totals are 7-8 feet. Right now it's snowing so hard that the CHP has closed the roads. Wheeling this weekend might be a pipe dream.

Well all of the other guys are up there already. I'm sure I'll be able to make it up the hill.

The wife is coming with me so there will be plenty of pictures.
