• Trail Report: Colorado Mines - Archive

A couple of years ago the boys and I took a trip up to Silverton Colorado the explore the area. Silverton and Ouray were some of the biggest and prosperous mining areas in the country.

We went mainly to explore the mountainous area trails, but the mine sites were so numerious that you couldn't help but check them out also.

So to completly drive Mitch crazy I thought I would post them at this time.

    Merry Christmas

If anyone wanted to take an awesome vacation this would be a great place. We stayed in Ouray, then took most of the BLM roads through the historic mining camps. Most all the roads are easily done with a stock SUV. I drove our stock Liberty 4x4 w/o any problems on the trails.

If you wanted to save money on a trip to the Alps this would be the next best thing.

I'm not sure if Colorado has any deserts or not. It was just getting daylight when we came into Durango.

It was accually Sept 2008 when we were there.

I see the Buffalo Boy tram station in there; it's also in the clouds; rained like crazy they day we were there in 2006; I loved driving the road to that site.

It usually rains weekly in the San Juans during the summer. And in mid Sept the flowers are in bloom and most of the snow is melted off.

I've been to the San Juans twice and they are incredible.

Mitch might not like the shelf roads though.
